Quoting comments about me from you mom again?
No sir. The preceding praise was straight from my own personal diary.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Sony has always been a terrible video game company yet they were hugely successful based on luck and timing. Sony was the main reason for Sega having to drop out of the hardware business. It is just downright sickening. The video game industry should have been so much better than this. >_>

If more people start to figure out that Sony actually really sucks, maybe they will leave the video game market and just stick to making music CD's with rootkits. Then Sega can come back to hardware and we can have 2 competent video game hardware companies again!

And bring back NEC while you're at it. They can take Microsoft's place.

While I agree that a lot of Sony's success was simply good timing and luck, I've never quite agreed with the notion that Sony was solely responsible for Sega's downfall.

Sega shot themselves in the foot with the botched Saturn release. If it weren't for that, I imagine Sega might still be in the console biz today.

And the botched GameGear... and the botched Sega CD... and the botched 32x.

Sony was only a small factor in them going down. People were only willing to go to Sony because Sega had made a bad name for themselves, and the PlayStation was much cheaper than the Saturn.

Despite my complaining, a morbid part of myself almost hopes the outage continues until E3. Wonder how the keynote address at the Sony Press Conference would go down if that were to happen?

I agree that the Super 32X was shit but all of those other Sega platforms were fine to me. I think people are a little too quick to bash on them. Besides, the Dreamcast was pure gold. But who needs a fantastic system with tons of amazing games when you can watch DVD movies on a Playstation 2, right? >_>

I'd find it hard to say the GameGear was botched exactly. It's still one of the best performing handhelds not made by Nintendo.

DVD was a seriously huge deal back then though.

Oh and don't get me wrong, the Saturn was an awesome console. It's just that the US release was a giant trip-up that all but doomed them.

Let's not forget that the Saturn was a 2D juggernaut back in a time when games were getting poor reviews for no other reason than NOT being 3D. Mega Man X4 is a classic example of this - it got bashed to hell and back for not being 3D. The Saturn (and the Dreamcast after it) were almost like sacrificial lambs sent out to die at the temple of Bernie Stolar.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
