Yeah I sent you a friend request but PSN went down like 2 days after haha.

Quite a few: MK vs DCU, Soulcalibur IV, Tekken 6, SSF4, MvC3, BlazBlue CT/CS, Battle Fantasia, DBZ Burst Limit.

No, I hear you, I was just speaking for myself.

Also, MGS4 was basically what sold me, too.

So you only use your PS3 for online things? You never play single player or use it as a DVD / Blu-ray player? Never use the internet browser or stream stuff from your PC to it? Its not an online only console, so over reacting and saying it is now a paperweight is a bit much.

More transparency is definitely needed, but as MrPopo said its hard to pull off for a big company. The most frustrating thing about all this has simply been the lack of communication. It doesn't need to be much, just a small daily update saying what they are currently working on would suffice.

What do you want from them? You're pissed they don't give you a firm date, but you'd be more pissed if they gave you a firm date and missed it.

Well they have already done that twice now - "within the week" (as the problem happened) and "this weekend" which did not happen.

If I were Sony I would say a date sufficiently far enough into the future as to allow them to rebuild the entire network based on their experience building it the first time - that way the situation cannot get any worse and when they move their projections forward it is good news for the customer and good PR for Sony.

But hey, that's just me. If they want to play around and hope that customers won't take their wallets and walk away that's up to them.

So you only use your PS3 for online things? You never play single player or use it as a DVD / Blu-ray player? Never use the internet browser or stream stuff from your PC to it? Its not an online only console, so over reacting and saying it is now a paperweight is a bit much.

Pretty much I only use it to play fighting games with some of the guys around here. My single player experience was limited to Metal Gear Solid 4 - and that wasn't exactly a 'playing' experience as much as it was a 'viewing' experience. But I think that gripe is covered in another thread.

Typically, if I am looking for a single player experience, I find my choices on other consoles both current and retro to be more compelling than what's on offer on the PS3. Not bashing the single player opportunities on PS3, mind you. Just saying that my tastes might differ from the mainstream.

As for Blueray - well, I don't actually own any blueray discs. I don't find the enhanced visuals to be sufficient incentive to purchase movies or shows that I can view in SD for significantly less money.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Demon's Souls and all of the other JRPG support have made me more than pleased with my purchase of a PS3. The fact that the media is region-free is also huge for me.

Oh, I forgot about that one. Clearly they need to burn for that. (half sarcastic... half not)

I'm in the same boat as Flake. I don't watch Blu-rays on it. I bought Inception and watched it once. I bought the system to play games. Hell, the PS3 isn't even hooked up to my HD TV anymore, it's in my dedicated gaming area connected to a 10 year old 27" CRT. I'm not down with the streaming from my computer stuff. I use my computer for surfing, business and more recently older FPSs.

Initially, I don't think I realized how internet reliant I would be when I got the system. But that's just the way things turned out. I have done an admirable job of purchasing games that include local coop as well as online play. Even then, you still need a 2nd person around who is willing to partake in split screen. Most of the games I own just aren't that fun alone. Sure, it's my own damned fault for buying and getting into them, but those coop based games are some of the best the system has to offer, IMO. Why slug through the no so great single player experience contained in these PS3 games when I have a proverbial dump truck full of other great titles for my classic systems?

So now you see our dilemma. This is the situation the majority of PS3 users are in right now. For the majority, the PS3 is crippled without online support. You can tilt your head back, cross your arms and whipper snappers single player should be respected all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that for most people the PS3 (and the Xbox 360) is about 70% worthless without PSN.

My my, how important you must be to speak for the majority, and to pull statistics out of thin air!

Clearly you've never met Wip3out in real life. The room buzzes with electricity when he enters and his smile actually makes that 'ping' sound you see on toothpaste commercials. The dude is vital.
