How do you feel about paying extra for hidden content?
Re: How do you feel about paying extra for hidden content?
For certain things (like a completely new campaign of a large RPG) I don't mind it, but one that really pissed me off was Castlevania: Harmony Of Despair. The "full game" is really only a small portion of what all the DLC provides, but to get it all it's over $100 and you have to piece it together. That's BS IMO so I never even tried the demo. Too bad because I've wanted a multiplayer Castlevania for years (even tried to make one myself - but free of course)

I hate it just like having pie cut slices taken out of my dvd cases, paying for p2p on xbox live, and all the other stupid shit this gen has brought. People refused to stand up for these shenanigans, and it is showing. Next gen is gonna be even worse, as the big three know what can be milked.

I like DLC. It adds extra longevity to a game long after a person may have become bored of it. However, I don't like finding out that the DLC was being planned before the game had even come out yet. It's even worse when the DLC is in fact on the disc already and yet you are still expected to pay for it.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

DLC, included in disc or not, is one of the ways the industry is fiddling with to cope with higher development costs and falling game prices (relatively; taking into account inflation and so on).
I have no problem with it as long as the DLC is of quality. But that could be said of any game, right? I don't won't buy a shitty game, and I won't buy shitty DLC.
I don't even care if it's included in the disc or not, that's not the relevant part. The relevant part is if something essential was taken out of the final version of the game.
That said, I think the whole pricing structure of games is messed up. They are too expensive, but also gamers are demanding more and more of their purchases. People bitch about games that are 10 hours long, don't have co-op, don't have competitive multiplayer, have "sub-par" graphics.
I'll gladly have smaller games over the AAA releases nowadays. In fact, I don't even have time to play most games, even if I want to. I often think there is too much content, not too little.
Maybe that's why I've drifted towards indie games. They are small, cheap and I can actually get to their end.

Or developers could stop releasing sequels per year and put a little more into single games.jfrost wrote:That said, I think the whole pricing structure of games is messed up. And how would that help them?
Re: How do you feel about paying extra for hidden content?
Practically speaking, not technically.
I don't like the point you and many others bring up about the lack of time either. Like it's a race to play games or something, but that's not how I see it. My issue is that $60 for something that I'm more than likely never going to ever touch again? Not worth it. If they're short or long doesn't really matter to me, if I can see myself wanting to replay it again sometime down the road then I think it's earned the $60 for me, and that sadly can't be said for most new games I've bought over the last few years. Hence why year by year the number of purchases gets smaller and smaller...

Re: How do you feel about paying extra for hidden content?
extra content is just silly and a way to milk even more money.
you really have to pay money to purchase another character and another difficulty in mm9? stupid.

if you took a shit, please put it back
Re: How do you feel about paying extra for hidden content?
There's DLC that's worth it and DLC that isn't. DLC that enhances the experience and DLC that fragments or ruins it.
I like the good kind. I don't like the bad kind. Simple as that, really.
