It's turned out a lot better for me, it saves me money on games and there's no way I could store all those cases where I live now.

That said, Gamestop is still a ripoff and I would never buy any of their scratched up junk.
You fiend. Did you actually throw them away, thereby destroying the cases forever, or did you ebay them?
I threw them away. I kept the cases for games that were more valuable though, obviously. It's not worth the effort to sell cases for common games.

Just want to emphasize the employees are great.
It is just the Corporate Policy that needs addressed.

Here is one example of what transpires for me regularly at Gamestop.

First a point to how special this game is. When I bought it, the next closest store that had a copy was 99 miles away. This is with 87 stores closer that do not have this unique game! I picked up the second copy the same day it was traded in a couple of days later. The game was developed by a company called Treasure, known in the gaming community for outstanding shooters.

I love honest caring Gamestop Employees
I bought a Gradius V game with no case and manual the other day to replace a scratched complete working game I recently purchased at another Gamestop. Note that I didn't do an outright exchange due to the rarity of the game, did not want to risk if the replacement would not run. When I returned the scratched game, the employee remembered seeing the case and manual in the rack. Even went to the trouble to search the empty game case out for a returned game. Employee found a NEW pristine manual and shiny new case, in better condition then the manual I bought with the first copy at another Gamestop. This also confirmed why the spare game looked brand new. A rare game that was rarely played before being traded in.

Customer Service
Anyways, the employee let me keep the NEW condition case and manual, not knowing I already had a manual and case from the previous purchase. This even though I returned just a scratched disc purchased from the other Gamestop. I told the employee how unique the scratched but still working game was and a company called Treasure was the developer. I mentioned I already have a manual that had some wear and maybe the game should remain complete for the next customer. The employee told me the game would not be disposed, but be sent out for resurfacing. I felt good about that another customer later would get a chance to purchase a rare game, so I told the employee I would bring back the other worn manual and case back tomorrow. Employee told me they will not send the disc out till Monday and will keep the disc waiting till I return the other cover and manual. Once I return the case and manual they will keep the pieces together for this thirteen dollar RARE game.

EDIT ADDENDUM
Returned the spare case and manual today, employee immediately pulled yesterdays returned disc that was in a "to be sent out Monday" box. The now complete game will be sent out tomorrow for resurfacing.

Okay a lot of communication to keep one returned game complete. But this shows the employee on the sales floor does care for customers that desire used complete games. Not just the sixty dollar new game customers. Corporate just needs to change the case and manual toss policy.

Enough voices will change the toss the PS2 cases policy
You can add your own experience to the Gamestop survey link above. No need to go thru all the survey pages, just a direct quick comment at the link above. I am forwarding this post to both the District Manager and Corporate along with the employee name and number. Good and caring employees do need to be kept and promoted in the store.

That post doesn't sound like he cares about it being complete. It sounds like he was totally ok with just giving you the case, but you had to convince him the game should stay with the case.

I edited the previous Reply to clarify.

I am a regular customer at most the local Gamestops in my district and know this employee. She knew I prefer crisp manuals so searched it out for me assuming I did not have a manual. For her it is take care of the customer first. She also went out of her way a couple of weeks ago tabulating all the B2G2F games, getting me the best deal on price matched freebies.

When I brought back the older spare case and manual this morning she immediately pulled yesterdays returned scratched disc and put it all back together. The scratched disc will be sent out tomorrow for a resurface and be sold as a complete game later. She took care of this customer, I returned the favor and helped a future sale and buyer.

Save the PS2 Cases! .... you have to say it like the old lady from back to the future ("save the clock tower")

Anyhow, this thread totally hit a nerve with me as well.. I have 6 stores in my immediate area, and they all toss out the cases for PS2 games under $4.99. One of them even tosses out ALL the cases for their pre-owned DS games! can you believe that? Little old DS cases, right out in the trash... These guys are bastards I tell ya!

It broke my heart when I heard they started doing this. I can remember less than a year ago seeing cheap games on the shelf, all nice and complete... and I said "nah, that games not rare, I'll pick it up when it gets a little cheaper"... little did I know they were going to toss out the poor cases.

Let's all have a moment of silence for the cases that never made it.........

ah, ok.. lol I'm back.

I too am a local gamestop junky...I like to stop by my local gamestops atleast once a week, just to see what new trades have come in... it's the only way to land that Rare copy of Ar Tonelico =). Most of the employees know me as "the guy who buys all the old cheap games".

anyhow, Let's save the cases people! I've already written 3 comments to the gamestop survery CRT provided. All hail CRTGAMER!

Thanks! Be sure to go to the link in the quote below. Your comment won't be buried by the Survey. Actually gets a read by Corporate, especially when you check of the Do you want to be contacted by a District Manager box.

When the District Manager called me, she left a twenty dollar gift card with the Store Manager for me. A Thankyou for bringing up the suggestion, picked it up this morning. For me, the real message is maybe PS2, Gamecube and newer consoles won't get the cases and manuals tossed.

Some info, if you ever get a used game with an R on the back sticker, it just means the disc had a refurbish polish.

The Twenty Dollar "Thankyou" Gift Card from the District manager:
