um dude....the horse armor was released as DLC for the 360 (the main party imo who caused this mess in the first place, seeing how people think it's absolutely normal to pay a subscription for stuff the game's developers give out for free). It was also released on the PC, but later on they added it to the game of the year edition, and the "expansion" if you can call it that.

I don't mind paying for extras that are still being developed and worked on after release day. In fact, I find that it helps with my enjoyment of a game if I know that the development team are still loving it themselves (such as Backbreaker).

I dislike additional content being released alongside the game. I'd much rather that they put it in the game properly and charged a few quid more for the game.

I find it downright offensive when companies charge to access content that's already on the disc. That's like Microsoft charging me if I want to play a DVD on my 360. Oh yeah, they did that last generation didn't they?
Currently playing: Skies of Arcadia, Mass Effect 2, Backbreaker

Consoles Owned: XBox 360, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, N64DD, PSone, XBox, Game Boy Advance SP, Gameboy Pocket, Game Gear.

Oh. I didn't realize it was for 360 first. I didn't have any the next-gen consoles for awhile and just saw it come out for PC.

Yeah, it's bullshit, but I've given up on modern gaming. It's ALL bullshit. Boring mass market crap with no soul. I haven't even scratched the surface of the game libraries of the NES up to the PS2, I don't need to bother with most modern gaming.
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

Seeing as how nintendo has decided to kickstart the next generation of consoles earlier than needed (for microsoft and sony anyway), this sounds like a good time to ditch modern gaming.

The only form of DLC I didnt mind, and actually spent money on was more songs for my rockband collection. My fiance and I used to play it so much that when a new song came out we liked we had to have it.

But one of the worst offences i have heard recently is with Portal 2, where you can buy accessories like hats and sunglasses for your character (only used in co-op BTW) that were running something crazy like 2.99-4.99. these had no effect on gameplay it was mearly a visual thing to show that you were an idiot for paying for these items. I think I read that all of the day 1 DLC for that game could cost you $100 if all purchased.

Haha yeah, I think for once I'm finally not going to care to get any of the next systems right away for quite sometime.

Sorry I don't get this. When Valve releases a new TF2 map, that's cool and there's nothing to lose. When TopPop released a free expansion for Railroad Tycoon 3 there's nothing to lose either.

You don't need to buy them, they drop. The Portal 2 store runs the same way as TF2's.

Also, if you have a hat in TF2 that is also in Portal 2, it instantly drops so. They made a funny post about how the TF2 team was so addicted to hats they couldn't grasp a game without them so they copy-pasted some in the game.

The store also has some background in it. It was suggested by fans, who wanted to support their games after the initial pucharse or had too much money to spend.

I'm fine with it. It fits very well in Valve's model of bussiness and does no harm to the player base. (In fact it helps it as it justifies more support).

I think there are two camps on this issue:

1. You're paying $xx for the game as intended, not the physical disc or all the bytes on it.

2. You're paying $xx for the physical disc and everything on it.

Depending on whether you fall into camp 1 or 2, you're going to have a very different perspective on the issue. I think it's pretty simple -- you paid for the game as advertised, and you got it. If they've made some extras that they want to be unlockable at a later time, you didn't pay for those. The fact that some of them may already be on the disc is a matter of distribution convenience, not some master plot to rip you off.

I'm pretty tired of hearing this argument this generation to be honest. Does it suck that we've gone the way of microtransacting extra content? Sure. Is anyone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy it? No. Were you cheated somehow because some meaningless crap like costumes cost an extra 0.99c? No. You paid for the whole game, and you GOT the whole game. Extra content is just that, EXTRA. It's not hard to grasp, and I'm really tired of the air of entitlement coming from so many different segments of the gaming community.

It's a different marketplace now than the one we grew up with. Grow and evolve with it, or stick to the systems from an era where stuff like this didn't happen.

I NEVER download DLC that you have to pay for, unless it is a fully fleshed out expansion pack that is well worth it (and this is almost never the case). Companies that pull this shit are being total bastards. *cough* Capcom *cough* I understand why they do it, of course. The real blame is with the tits who actually buy it. *cough* tits who bought extra outfits for SFIV characters *cough*

Screw you guys who buy that stuff!

Praises to free DLC. I am much happier to support those companies by buying their games in the future and encouraging others to do the same.
