I just saw this and was very surprised by how good this game looks. It looks like Squenix is taking the battle system and giving it a Kingdom Hearts makeover instead of the system from FFXIII from what I'm seeing (and very much hoping I'm correct about - we'll have to wait and see). It also looks like there's a chance the world will be much more open in this game. Oh, and I'm very much digging the art style. I'm looking much more forward to this than FFXIII-2.
FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII Trailer 2011 - Lookin pretty good!

I did not know this thing was still in development. It has been in production hell for so long that I think I just assumed it had been cancelled.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Not surprising at all. Instead of this we need Final Fantasy XIII-2 first this year because everyone obviously wanted it...Flake wrote:I did not know this thing was still in development. It has been in production hell for so long that I think I just assumed it had been cancelled.
So far this game looks good to me because of the setting (reminds me a lot of FF7), and the combat looks really fun. I'm not a huge Kingdom Hearts fan but I know the combat in 2 at least was pretty awesome, so I have faith in the gameplay here. I'm pretty skeptical about the story though, with the convoluted belts and zippers Square Enix that they are thesedays... I have no idea what to expect. I think this is probably the the last chance Square Enix has to keep me interested in them from here on. They haven't released a single "worthy" game this generation in my eyes at all. The pressure is on!

That's what I thought too, but I'm glad it's still happening because it looks a lot more appealing than FFXIII-2 to me (and I was actually pretty pissed because I thought they canceled it to develop FFXIII-2 instead)Flake wrote:I did not know this thing was still in development. I just want the company that made Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross to exist again. Square had so much style and vision back then. Now? I feel like Square is becoming a mockery of itself.

Awesome, haven't scratched my Final Fantasy itch for a while. One thing they have been doing well since FF X is combat. This looks ambitious, might be fun
Something else for me to get psyched about this year besides Mass Effect 3 and Batman: Arkham City

This is the one I want the most out of all the releases. I have been waiting for so long!

The Chrono team is more or less Monolith Soft thesedays, but who knows how many of those original devs are still around. As for Mana who knows, I don't even like to compare Legend of Mana to the SNES games either to be honest.Flake wrote:I just want the company that made Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross to exist again. Though I see you're talking more about Square Enix here and yeah, I agree. May as well change their company name to Kingdom Fantasy or something. I definitely like to pretend Square Soft and Square Enix are two completely different worlds... because they really pretty much are.
