Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
So, after the games that defined the Neo Geo article was finished, Racketboy and I came onto discussing the idea of a games that defined the Neo Geo Pocket, as well as a hidden gems section. I think both articles would be a lot of fun to put together and was wondering if anyone else would want to contribute to this. I was thinking of writing an article for Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure for the games that defined the Neo Geo Pocket, and maybe Faselei! As a hidden gem. Any other ideas?
My Console Collection: 3DS (JPNS), Dreamcast (US and JPNS), Genesis, N64 (US and JPNS), iPod Touch, NES, Xbox, Famicom, Colecovision, Super Famicom, Neo Geo AES, Sega Saturn, DS LL (JPNS), Neo Geo Pocket Color.
Re: Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
Defined:
Gals Fighter
SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium
King of Fighters R2
Last Blade
Hidden Gems:
With so few games, this would have to be a very short list. For certain, Faselei! would have to be on there. Rockman Power Battles should be there too - most people aren't even aware a variation of the arcade hit was ported to NGPC as it never made it out of Japan.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
I would say the Pocket Fighters definitely defined the system:
Match of the Millennium
Samurai Shodown 2
King of Fighters R-2
Gal's Fighters
Fatal Fury: First Contact
The Last Blade
Then there's the two Cardfighter's Clash games, two Metal Slug games, Puyo Pop, and Puzzle Bobble Mini.
As for Hidden Gems, I just beat Dark Arms: Beast Busters 1999, a gothic-horror action RPG where you level up your weapons that was pretty enjoyable.
Here's a link to a brief look I took at the NGPC and some of its games if it might help you out:

I would be happy to help you guys out more if you want and do a write up (I would love to do a write up of Dark Arms especially). I really dig the Neo Geo Pocket!

@Czernobog I'm pretty sure we can get this thing off the ground fairly quickly. If you want to write the article for the "Dark Arms" article for the hidden gems, that would be great, while I do Sonic Pocket Adventure and Falselei!

Re: Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
I got dibs on SNK vs. Capcom, Biomotor Unitron, Gals Fighter, and Metal Slug 2nd Mission.
Also, for the Hidden Gems, I would really like to write about Magical Drop, Cotton, Ganbare! Neo Poke-Kun, and Evolution: Eternal Dungeons.

Re: Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
Sounds good, I can also do a write up for the Cardfighters Clash Games for the defining article. I also have access and can write about some of the Pocket Fighters (except SNK vs. Capcom cause Lisalover's got that one covered).daito_kid wrote:@Czernobog I'm pretty sure we can get this thing off the ground fairly quickly. EDIT: Lisalover also has dibs on Gal Fighters for the Pocket Fighters.
EDIT 2: If anyone else wants to do some of the Pocket Fighters, my knowledge of fighters in general is pretty weak compared to a lot of other members here, so don't hesitate to ask Daito if you can write something. My real desire here is to write about Dark Arms and Cardfighter's Clash.
@ daito_kid: Just let me know what you need.

Re: Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
I own the following games for the system:
Gals Fighters (definetely a defining game)
Sonic Pocket Adventure (probably this too)
Faselei (a hidden gem maybe? I dunno, seem well known for the system nowadays)
SNK vs Capcom Cardfighters clash (probably another defining game imo).
Pocket Tennis - this is really fun, but im not sure it goes on either list
Metal Slug 2nd Mission - both this and the first are probably defining games.
Puzzle Link - Fun, bit not hidden or defining really
Puzzle Bobble Mini - same as puzzle link
King of Fighters R2 - probably a defining game along with many of the fighters on the system.
Dark Arms: Beast Buster 1999 - this is fun, but i dunno if it belongs on either list.
The difficulty with this system is that its so underappreciated, pretty much everything seems like a hidden gem thats worth playing. Where do you draw the line?
Anyhow, I have Cool Cool Jam on the way in the post at the minute, so I'll tell you how that is soon enough. I'm also watching an auction on Ganbare Neo Pokekun which looks promising.
So much I still want for the system though - some of the fighters (last blade, samurai shodown, snk vs capcom: MOTM), Dive Alert, Rockman Power Battles, Cotton. Surprisingly big library of worthwhile games for such a small library total.

Re: Games that Defined the Neo Geo Pocket and Hidden Gems
I agree with AJ that some sort of sports game should be included, to represent the system's strong sports lineup. I think I will write an article for Pocket Tennis, too. I think that it juuust barely beats out Neo Turf Masters for the best sports game on the NGPC.
