New to Spyro.
I've just started playing through Ripto's Rage for the first time. This is the first time I've played any Spyro game. I'm really enjoying it so far and have decided to pick up the rest of the games. Are there any special editions or anything that I should look for? I'm also only interested in the Sony console versions of the games. Should I be interested in the hand held games at all?

Re: New to Spyro.
I only played the very first Spyro game on the ps1 when it released, but I really enjoyed it.
Re: New to Spyro.
I played the first one as well and really liked it back when it first came out. I still have it and have been meaning to try it out again. My brother had one on the GBA that I tried and couldn't stand playing. I got way too ticked at the limited field of view and frustrated by not knowing where I was going.
Re: New to Spyro.
The first three PS1 games are all made by Insomniac - those are the good ones. All the other ones were made by different companies, and from what I've heard are of very poor quality and glitchy.
Not sure about special editions and whatnot, I'm pretty sure they're all the same although there is one collector's edition version.

Exactly. Growing up, Spyro was one of my favorite series. The first three on Ps1 are the only ones worth playing.Bradtemple87 wrote:I agree, play the first three and leave after that

I think I've heard before that only the first 3 were any good. It should be easier to complete the set, then. Thanks for the help, everyone.

I enjoyed the Spyro games on Playstation then lost interest in the series after Insomniac stopped making new titles in the series.

Re: New to Spyro.
They never owned the rights to spyro, it was always Universal's. I read after the first three games they decided to stop the series because Spyro's actions were limited due to him not having any hands (so he couldn't pick things up/have weapons) and that really restricted the gameplay. So the licence to make Spyro games was handed off to another developer when the PS2/gamecube came out.

Spyro and Crash Bandicoot being owned by Universal was really the worst thing that could have happened to them. It would have been so much better if Sony owned them instead.wootcube wrote:They never owned the rights to spyro, it was always Universal's.
