That's like half the reason why I hate him. I mean, it looks so fucking dumb to attack monsters with a ball.

It doesn't fit because the game takes itself so seriously that there's no place for that. I felt bad everytime I attacked with him because it broke my inmersion.

But I found FFX very boring so I'm biased. 8)

Same here as far as LJN goes.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

So, wait...attacking with a living doll (Lulu's weapon) was serious?

Honestly though, which Final Fantasy doesn't take itself seriously?

I also liked Wakka, he was the "every man" character that was simply realistic with believable motivations. He didn't fall into some common J-RPG archetype like other characters tend to do from the get-go. The English voice actor for Wakka was perfect, IMO, really brought out the endearing qualities of his personality.

Also, he kicks ass in battle.

Evergrace for the ps2 did get mixed results none of them really good but i found myself oddly drawn to completing that game. I won't be finishing it again but i'd say it's worth it if you get it dirt cheap.

I felt bad for Blacklight: Tango Down. They had a really awesome premise with pretty awesome things going for it. Then I played it. And was appalled. Great game ruined by bad execution and management (Windows Live for PC, really? Terrible service).

man, i LOVED bart's nightmare and virtual bart. virtual bart a little less so, but i spent a lot of time with these games as a kid. the egg toss game in VB took a lot of hours away from my developmental process as a child. i look at those games as kind of a precursor to games like mario party or wario ware.

I'd want a friend like that

See I look at who a character actually is. I don't care if people didn't like his accent or his name. Wakka was a good guy. Course, I also love the fact that he is the most powerful offensive character in the game. Perfect for the monster arena
i always liked wakka for those reasons, also. FFX was a pretty important game to me, one of my top 10, for sure. the sphere grid was something that i really got into and really enjoyed much more so than any kind of class system or traditional leveling-up you do in any other FF game.

the thing that drove me fucking nuts was blitzball. i just could not wrap my head around that. which sucks because you can't unlock wakka's ultimate weapon without it. maybe someday i'll revisit that but i remember it being such a fucking headache that i doubt it'll be anytime soon.

and while liking auron is kind of a given (which was definitely helped by his dialogue, which was definitely helped by the fact that you never see the dude's mouth so there was no sync-work to be done), i also really liked lulu and looked at her kind of in the same way that i look at katey segal's character on sons of anarchy (not at the same time, since i played it back in like 2003). just a very motherly character looking out for her summoner, while also battling her own emotional distresses, which were unfortunately not really expanded upon much in the story.

also, while i'm waxing hard on FFX, i want to tell you guys that i cried a little during the battle between Kimahri and Yenke/Birahn. the music and the moment were so powerful. i am a wuss.
Yeah Lulu was very cool for the reasons you stated. I think that's another reason I think Wakka is cool. He hooks up with Lulu, who was the hottest female character in the game. I don't know how many people know about the hidden relationship meter in the game, which subtly affects cutscenes as well as Tidus' ultimate attack based on which female's favor he has acquired. For me, it was Lulu

Blitzball was just about recruiting the right free agents(cause the default Aurochs suck)and knowing what exploits the game let you abuse. Honestly though, I don't see how anyone would figure all that out without a faq. Once you GET IT though, you can waltz over most teams except the Al Bhed team if I remember correctly

I second this. I have a soft spot for both Evergrace and Evergrace 2 (Forever Kingdom).

I think this topic has enough Final Fantasy discussion in it for now, lets keep it to a minimum shall we?

I'm surprised to see a lot of people defend LJN here, it got me digging through my games finding what I have of LJN, and sure enough I have one. WWF Raw for the SNES. I don't know if it was because I was into wrestling or not but I loved playing this game with my brother when we were kids. Smacking Doink with a bucket and hearing his nose honk was so much fun

I think that's the main reason I didn't enjoy FFX - the game was so blatantly unbalanced.

Wakka has an overdrive? Do it. Someone else has an overdrive? Transfer it to Wakka so he can do his overdrive. Repeat over and over. Strategury!

Oh yeah, and LJN sucked. It's thanks to those assholes (well, more specifically Acclaim, who owned them) that The Simpsons and X-Men Arcade games never came to consoles. Instead, we got utter gems like Arcade's Revenge and Return of the Sinister Six. Put me off of comic-related console games for half a decade (of course, Blizzard shares some of the blame thanks to Justice League Task Force).

Though, in truth, LJN wasn't a developer, they were just a publisher that didn't disclose who developed their games - which is even worse, in my book.
