Summer Project

Post by o.pwuaioc »

This will be my last summer that I will still have some free time, since next year I'll be working on a PhD in New York. My goal for this summer (really only July and half of August!) is to finish a hell of a game, or in the case that it's not an RPG, a couple of games. Nothing after the N64 please. I'm already working on Breath of Fire III as we speak.

Here are my initial thoughts:

Breath of Fire IV for PS1 (never played, might want to take a break after III though)
Final Fantasy VI for SNES
Final Fantasy IX for PS1
Phantasy Star II/III for Genesis (never finished/never played)
Ogre Battle for SNES
Soul Blazer for SNES (never played, how long is this game?)

What are your suggestions? For the record, most RPGs on the NES and PS1 I haven't played. And I'm definitely willing to entertain a lengthy non-RPG game (or perhaps a couple non-lengthy ones). Thanks in advance!

Final Fantasy 6 and 9 are a must.

This. In my opinion, they are the best games in the series.

Work your way down that list, I'm guessing with the time you will have you could finish most of them in the next few months.

FF5 is the best in the series. FF6 is vastly over-rated; it has a pretty good storyline, but game play is a little shallow. FF5 story is good, but the Job system is miles better than the broken Esper system of FF6.
WTB: 2600 Solar Fox, Solaris, HERO 7800 Space Duel XBox Ninja Gaiden Black Genesis/CD Shadowrun DC KOF 98 Disc only, Powerstone 2 SNES Shadowrun

V and VI are both great. Yes.

I agree with this. I like V and VI equally though, can't pick one over the other. Neither is my favorite though.

Since this is related, I thought I'd mention that Snickerd00dle confirmed to me the other day that he will be doing a summer challenge again this year - look for it late May/early June. Last year's is here. Start thinking about your lists (but save them for his upcoming thread!)
