Guardian Heroes
I can't seem to get into this game. What's so great about it?
Re: Guardian Heroes
It a very good looking and well made beat em up, for its time the amount of multiple paths, endings, etc was pretty rate.
If you cant get into something, who cares, everyone likes different things, I wouldn't bother.

Re: Guardian Heroes
I see people raving about it for having all this stuff in it yeah, like the multiple paths, the plane system, the rpg elements, the dynamic combo system, but I've played beatemups that seem to do ALL of those different things better. It feels like the game is just a jack of all trades and a master of none. The collision in this game seems particularly odd to me as well, and the animation is honestly very weak. I don't know, I expect a lot from a game that has so many people calling it one of the best games ever, but now I'm thinking it might be the rose colored glasses of the Saturn fanboy.
Re: Guardian Heroes
I didn't get a Saturn until last year and the first game I bought for it was Guardian Heroes.
I guess question number 1 would be if you are playing the game in a language you can read. Half the games charm is the campy story and the various story wrinkles that get introduced as you choose to involve yourself in certain paths.
For me the charm is the sheer number of sprites on screen at any given time, the challenge of controlling the golden warrior while you battle on with your own character, the fun of doing street fighter-esque moves into crowds of enemies, and the music. The music is simply awesome - who samples jazz saxophone and puts it into a beat-em up? Pure 90's and pure awesome!

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I just saw on joystiq that apparently this is finally coming to XBLA this fall...

I am so stoked! I can't believe SEGA actually gave the fans one of the biggestm, most requested gems of the Saturn era. Just take my money! I can't wait.
I hope the online multiplayer is tight and smooth. I really want to replay this game with 4+friends online at once. Oh man!

Which ones were those?SplashChick wrote:I've played beatemups that seem to do ALL of those different things better.
But yeah, I kind of feel the same way as Flake. The game has tons of style, that's a huge factor in it's appeal. The artwork, the music, the characters, the goofy story, the mass on-screen chaos, the badassery of the golden knight, and some of the funnest co-op I've ever played.
The game might not have top notch mechanics (which is what it seems like you're looking for), but it's still great for a lot of reasons outside that. When it came out in 96, it was hands down the best beat em up available on home consoles.
