I use the term "bad game" loosely though, as I don't really believe in bad games. I mean, developers spend so much time and effort trying to develop a game that they put their heart into, and what do they see once its released? Mediocre, generic, uninspired, lazy, boring, ugly, etc.
I own a few "bad" games like Urban Champion, Haze, Aquaman (GC), BMXXX, Wayne's World (SNES) just to name a few. I honestly feel bad for the developers when I hear people badmouthing these games. Sure, sometimes these games are rushed or the publisher had something completely different in mind than the developer originally intended. It happens (a lot). Still, you've got to think about the fact that these people play video games just like you and I, and that somewhere someone actually enjoyed them despite magazine/online reviewers ripping them a new one.
Who agrees? Just think of one "bad" game you own that you actually appreciate; mine would be (based off IGN's review and several others) God Hand. Man I love that game!
Ever play a bad game that you feel bad for?

I've defended LJN many times on this forum. All the gamers on the LJN-Sucks-Bandwagon surely have never played an ElectroBrain or THQ Game Boy release.

I feel for bad games in general. I love bad games.

Shaq Fu is one that I've particularly felt bad for, because while we like to laugh at the nonsensical plot and rant about the horrid controls, it actually had an interesting idea behind it: it was developed by the makers of Out of This World and meant to flow like a cinematic platformer. Obviously it's bloody difficult to do that in this fighting game due to the delay in controls, but if you watch the gameplay during the final credits, it shows what the game was supposed to be.

Haha, good choice. Other than being technically broken sometimes (hey like any Bioware game), I had a lot of fun with this one.yomomma1 wrote:Alpha protocol.
Sonic 3D Blast comes to mind. As BRIK said, haters gonna hate... I've always loved this game.
The Last Remnant I did practically everything for (except due to messing up on ONE little optional choice I missed the chance of getting 2-200 point achievements and the option to fight some true final boss or something, maybe I'll do that another time around). I seriously couldn't tell you what the plot was at all because it didn't exist, but I thought the game had an interesting combat system and I got addicted to it. It really is humorous to say of all JRPG's this gen, this is one of the only ones I've really enjoyed. I convinced a few other friends to try it out and like most, they hated it. lol, oh well.

I felt bad for Phantasmagoria. It really does have an ambitious storyline, and it was a technological marvel at the time. They just made some poor design choices to try to make it appeal to non-gamers and those design choices basically made it not a game. A lot of people hate it. The FMV scenes get made fun of too, though I think they are both fun and macabre. The game just seems to have an identity crisis. It tried to be cutting edge in its use of technology to appeal to hardcore gamers, but it sacrificed controls and game depth to bring in players that don't usually play video games. It tried to be mature in its storytelling, but presented it through campy b-movie horror acting. It's kind of a hot mess. I love it and feel bad for it.
