I just got back from Tuscaloosa. I had previous plans to go home for the weekend, and didn't change the from the tornadoes. There is a path of destruction straight up the middle of town. I'm not sure what the currently-reported death toll is, but I know that the actual numbers in Tuscaloosa are substantially higher. I imagine this is true of other parts of Alabama as well.
One really good thing is that large portions of Tuscaloosa are completely untouched, so there is no shortage of volunteers. They are controlling access to most of the hardest-hit areas, both for safety concerns and to keep disaster tourists from clogging the roads taking pictures. It's weird. I worked on Saturday in Alberta City, which used to be a fairly dense area. Now, it's just a bunch of piles of debris, and none of the trees which managed to still be standing have any leaves at all, and most have a lot of their bark stripped away. I talked with a guy who was in an office when it hit and was flung out of the building. He said that the tornado looked like a giant weed whacker just eating things up. Folks are finding identifying debris (like business cards, utility bills, and, rumor has it, debris from a restaurant that was blown away) from Tuscaloosa well over a hundred miles away.

Also, a woman from my church was helping clear debris over behind what's left of Hobby Lobby a few days ago. She was part of a group that discovered a baby girl, most likely under two years old. She was alone, had only a few broken bones, but they have no idea who she is, where her parents are, or if they are alive.

Here's a pretty decent video I found around my house.
You can actually see my house (the little blue one on the right) at 2:11. Though it is inhabitable, at least it didn't fall down on us.
I moved in with my aunt and cousin in Kingsland, Georgia a couple days ago. Doing alright here.

I'm glad to hear you were able to stay with family. It's stressful, but it sure beats being in a shelter, like a lot of folks are.WrathOskvro wrote:Here's a pretty decent video I found around my house.

Yeah I know right? One of my "Best friends" is actually pissed at me because I "bailed" though.
Sorry but uh she can go to hell. She has a house.

It's not too late to ask her, "Can I live with you?"WrathOskvro wrote:Yeah I know right? One of my "Best friends" is actually pissed at me because I "bailed" though.
