You can't be serious; the're really making a Spy Kids remake? No one wants to see that movie again!

Also, it blows my mind how a show like "Are We There Yet" makes it to air. A TV series about a 6-year-old poorly-grossing movie that got horrible reviews and had insipid writing that lost its relevancy well before it was ever unleashed onto unsuspecting theater patrons. For shame.

What I find interesting is that in film, remakes are almost always universally reviled. Gamers on the other hand, love remakes. Why is that?

Because movie remakes have a history of not living up to the originals, whereas remakes of video games often equal or surpass the original. This is probably due to the fact that remakes of movies are made from the ground up, with different actors, directors, writers, etc., while a video game remake is usually the same as the original, with some of the faults fixed, and better graphics. And they are often made by the same team as the original, or at least a few of the key people.

Movies are a more passive experience than games. A remake of a classic game can change the way you experience the game, for better or for worse. It's easier to compare the total package between the original and the remake. With a movie remake the only thing you see is the story changes (and a minor bit with the SFX changes).

Also, not much is gained by film remakes. Sure, you can use CGI and special effects will generally be better, but the experience is not leaps and bounds ahead of what you already got.

Technological evolution in games, by contrast, is much more palpable. Games that couldn't be fully realized before because of technical limitations now can. I'd say the benefit of game remakes is much more tangible than of film remakes.

There's also the fact that movies will be released in a universal standard, like DVD and before that VHS. Your DVD player will play any movie. Games are locked by platform. There's no MovieStation or Xvidx 360.

Remakes expose the games to a bigger audience.
