So I was trying to install the Xeno GC, and apparently the soldering iron I used was of less than stellar quality. The wire kept sticking to it, and for a second when I held it over the circuit board, some of the wired dripped down and instantly cooled down. Which is probably what went wrong. I had a suspicion and reassembled the console, powered it up again, and it told me to refer to the manual.
All I wanted to do was play my pirated copy of Tales of Symphonia because I couldn't afford the original. I guess that's karma for you.
RIP GameCube

Re: RIP GameCube
Get noiseredux's chip and another Cube. You can get a bare console (no wires) for $10 on eBay, just gotta look a little.
Re: RIP GameCube
Maybe cheaper to just BUY the game? Gamecube will last longer if it did not have to read DVDRs.eskil wrote:All I wanted to do was play my pirated copy of Tales of Symphonia because I couldn't afford the original. I guess that's karma for you.

I will not engage in any discussion regarding the motivation/ethics behind installing modchips.CRTGAMER wrote:Maybe cheaper to just BUY the game? Anyway, I'll probably just try to get a new console on the cheap. Pre-modded if at all possible on my budget. But the sad thing about this is that now that one of my consoles is dead, I have my beautiful Dreamcast to fall back on. Only, this morning I erased my entire VMU by accident.

He said nothing about ethics. He said it would be cheaper to get the game than to get a modchip.eskil wrote:I will not engage in any discussion regarding the motivation/ethics behind installing modchips.CRTGAMER wrote:Maybe cheaper to just BUY the game? Also, I hope you're prepared to spend a pretty penny on a premodded system. They aren't cheap, and overall you SHOULD'VE just bought the game. You're talking a difference of $100-$150 that you just lost over just buying it.

No. But he still should have just bought the game (regardless of ethics).Opa Opa wrote:A premodded 'Cube is expensive?YoshiEgg25 wrote:Also, I hope you're prepared to spend a pretty penny on a premodded system. They aren't cheap, and overall you SHOULD'VE just bought the game.

Yeah, I remember a couple of us talking about getting into a bidding war on Goodwill's bidding site, and it ended up going for $75-$80 before shipping.Opa Opa wrote:A premodded 'Cube is expensive?YoshiEgg25 wrote:Also, I hope you're prepared to spend a pretty penny on a premodded system. Which, considering you can get a loose Cube in decent condition for $10-$15, is quite a bit.
