I'm quite honestly thinking it's the best thing I've seen since Spice and Wolf, which would mean it's possibly my second favourite anime ever. I'll have to think it over more before I can be certain but yeah, it was that good.

Also, don't know if it's up your ally, but if you liked Strawberry Panic, and you haven't already, you could also check out Simoun and Maria-sama ga Miteru. Simoun was released about the same time as Strawberry Panic, but instead of a private school, has a War/Sci-fi setting. I never really got into it, but it actually received very good reviews. Maria-sama is also pretty popular (3 12-episode seasons, 1 OVA series). Similar setting to Strawberry Panic, but much heavier on the subtext. It's also a verrrrry relaxed show in terms of pace, but you can make your own judgments based on the first two episodes alone.
Cool, thanks. I'll check those out.

Has anybody seen Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit?

I saw the bluray at best buy the other day and it caught my interest. Any opinions?

I thought it was pretty awesome, slightly slow in the middle but that's about my only complaint... and the ending felt a bit open like there could have been more, but it concluded enough and I remember it being pretty emotionally awesome. I remember the series really caught my interest because it's directed by the guy that did Ghost in the Shell SAC (love it!) and Eden of the East (still need to see it but seems pretty popular). Balsa is a rarity in anime thesedays, she's an awesome adult female character that's not about fanservice and can kickass. And coming from Production IG you can expect excellent art/animation, I remember it definitely had some great lush environments and detail.

Very solid fantasy/adventure series in my book. It's fairly mature and serious, kind of like say The Twelve Kingdoms or whatnot if you've seen that one. Compared to that I'd say Moribito was a little more action packed at times, so I liked it a little more. Been years since I've seen The Twelve Kingdoms though...

Well I watched the first episode of Simoun and Maria-Sama.

Simoun, I just couldn't get into. Despite the fact that I read short plot summaries of both before watching them I found Simoun really confusing. And also it seemed really action heavy with the aerial dog-fights. I'm not a big fan of action-heavy anime. It's nice, but it's not what I watch anime for.

Maria-Sama I actually liked. In my opinion it's not as good as Strawberry Panic simply because the two are so similar and yet SP is a lot more colorful and I didn't get immediately attached to the protagonist of Maria (Or any of the characters for that matter) like I did in SP. But nonetheless it was pretty good. I'm gonna keep watching it.

Thanks Michi. I appreciate the suggestions.

You're welcome. :D

Like I said before, I really didn't like Simoun either. I watched the first couple of episodes as it was coming out via YouTube, but yeah....I couldn't get into it either. I'm not sure if it was the plot, or the characters or what, but it just didn't mesh with me. Didn't click. Which is a shame since so many others seemed to like it.

But Maria -sama is great. The first couple of episodes are a bit slower, but if you stick with it, I think you'll like it. It's a very character driven show, so the character development improves in the later episodes. Honestly, it's one of my favorite shows.

I was the opposite- I liked Simoun, but couldn't get into Marimite when I tried reading the manga. May try again, but it's fucking LONG.

I liked the short manga adaptation of Simoun. It was just the anime I couldn't get into.

And yeah. Marimite can be a little daunting. Especially when you find out there are 38 light novels and 25 short stories that the anime/manga are based off of, most of which never makes it into either adaptation. Not to mention the live-action movie, the written spin-off series and....I pretty much stick with the anime. All the more easier now, once they released it stateside.

The manga stretches things out a bit much, but at only a total of 8 volumes, and apparently slowly counting (seems it began serialization again in 2010), I really don't think it's that long. Maybe it would be better if it were licensed and we got regular releases. Despite its slow pace, the anime does move along at a pretty nice clip in comparison.

I just started watching Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka. Not amazing or anything but so far I'm 3 episodes in and it's definitely a fun little show.

So as some people know I am a huge fan of Supernatural on the CW and view it as the spiritual successor to shows like Buffy and Angel. Well just like how Buffy had an animated series planned(which sadly never got greenlit), Superatural has an accompanying anime series. Here's a trailer

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Supernatura ... 32868.aspx

I'm not sure how I feel about it based on the trailer, but I will probably check it out when it's released. It definitely looks like it'll be a bit more over the top than the original tv show in true anime fashion
