Lunar Knights
I recently got Lunar Knights for the DS and I'm enjoying it immensely. I love anything to do with Kojima so I was wondering if it's worth getting the original Boktai games? I mean will they seem inferior after playing LK?
I've played Lunar Knights and I own Boktai 2. I've heard they have the same general gameplay, but I haven't been able to confirm this myself because of the big hang-up where actual sunlight is needed to play Boktai when I only have time to game after dark. If you are in a situation where you can play with access to sunlight, I would recommend buying the game since the cartridges are running pretty cheap. I got my copy for $10 at Gamestop six months ago.
I've noticed there aren't exactly many Boktai fans around here in these forums.
I've finished the original one, and regardless of whatever else in the series you have played, I think I can recommend it.
I have Boktai 2 and played only the intro, I'm waiting for the Summer (and some time) to actually play it in earnest - but it seems to be high quality as well (and many people think it is better than the first - lets see what I think).
There is a japanese only Boktai 3, also GBA + solar sensor. I don't have that, although I found a patch to translate it (I think, I haven't applied the hack to a ROM on an emulator).
And then there is the DS game Lunar Knights which I haven't played or read much about, I know it doesn't have the sensor.
I think I should point out that it is untrue that you need a lot of sun to play the solar sensor games.
You really need to have sun during boss battles, and some can be pretty tough if you don't have strong sunlight.
During normal gameplay, and particularly in the first game where stealth is prevalent (if you want to get good scores especially) you can complete probably even the largest dungeons without using up all the charge in your gun - plus, even if you are wasting the energy, there are solar batteries scattered around so you can store a bit there when it is sunny to recharge when you need (there are batteries in mid-dungeon as well). You can even play the game mostly during the night (however bear in mind there are more enemies around).
There are even solar banks where you can put your stored energy, not play it for some days and have more solar energy ready to take out of the batteries...
I finished the first game with LOADS of stored solar energy in the batteries, of course I mostly played with sunlight but that means you can really go through the game basically only storing a bit in there and with sun during the bosses.
