What game was worth full ticketed price?

Post by casterofdreams »

Simple question? What games have you ever purchased in your life that was deemed worth the full price?

For me it was always Pokemon (main games mind you) and since 1998 they floated around $30 to $35 price. Great RPGs and great fun with all the things you do.

After that it was Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas at there limited edition prices of $80. I'm sorry but these two games are the most time I ever put into something. They are stacked with lots of details.

For me, Symphony of the Night. The number of different copies that I own, coupled with the amount of hours I've pumped into them all, I most definitely got far more value than ticket price.

I guess for me it's anything that got more than 24 hours play - so quite a few.

Based on hours of play per dollar spent (new, at the time), top 5 would be (hours/dollars estimates):

1) Wave Race 64 - N64 - 300+ hours - $40
2) Waialai Country Club Golf - N64 - 100+ hours - $30
3) Legend of Zelda LTTP - SNES - 60 hours - $30
4) Super Mario 64 - N64 - 60 hours - $40
5) Legend of Zelda OOT - N64 - 50 hours - $50 (gold LE cart - KMart pre-order)

Super Mario Sunshine, and quite a few wii games recently as well would equate to better than $1 and hour (at new ticketed price).

I would also say Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but I would be lying if I claimed to have paid full price for them. I got Fallout 3 for free and New Vegas for only $30 while it was still costing most people at least $50.

Anyways, staying on topic. Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Demon's Souls.

Off the top of my head those are the only games I've bought at full price and considered worth every penny. Come to think of it, I rarely ever buy games at full price anyways.

Oblivion comes to mind as a game that was well worth the $60. I put a lot of time into that one and can not wait for Elder Scrolls V.

Demon's Souls (200+ hours), Red Seeds Profile, and Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (150 hours) are 3 games this gen that I felt were worth every single penny and then some at full price.

I would pay double for their games.

Also Orange box... obvious choice but true.

Phantasy Star IV ($114.98 with tax the day it came out, worth every penny)

Pokemon sapphire, I put over 500 hours into that game during a summer. Other than that... Age of empires I, II, Age of mythology, Halo 2, Pokemon Channel, fallout 3, oblivion, call of duty 4, Mario kart 64, Final Fantasy 6, nintendogs, red dead redemption. There are some others, but that's the ones I really felt were a great buy.

Halo: Combat Evolved on PC for its multiplayer. I believe it was twenty dollars new when I got it, but I would be just as happy with it if I payed full ticket price. I still play it at least once a week for a couple hours and have a lot of fun doing so. People modify the maps all the time to include teleports (which are generally indicated so everyone can find them) that allow you to go to pretty much any part of the map. Of course there's plenty of servers using non-modded maps as well. Plus, I honestly only ever suspected one person of using an aimbot in all the time I've played the game. I'm surprised by how many polite people I play with on there (many of the regular players see each other on different servers fairly often and get along with one another).
