I was planning on saving Dark Stalkers 3: Vampire Savior for the summer challenge but today has been a long, long day and it is far from over. I had to take a couple of minutes to game just to keep myself from getting cranky.
This game is WAY better than the last Darkstalkers game I played, which was the original for the PSX back in the 90s. It's colorful and it's got a lot of style. The game is crazy unbalanced but that is part of its charm. If I had any complaint, it's that the default difficulty was way too low. I 1cc'd the game in like 20 minutes on my first try. I'll spend more time with this one when I finish college next week but I'll definitely bump the difficulty up.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

yeah, Darkstalkers 3 is way easier than the first. But goddammit if it isn't one of the most FUN fighting games ever. Oh man do I love that game.

I've "finished" The Path. It's quite neat and novel, once it becomes obvious what's going on and I think yes, it hangs on, in a good way though, despite the initial impression it may give.MrHealthy wrote: And yes, The Path is quite strange. Like you said, I never really want to play it either. I only did because I was bored. Its not like I dislike it though, I guess I just still don't know what to think about it.

Games Finished 2011
I ended up having a lot of fun with Fable III. The ending wasn't great, but the Traitor's Keep DLC more than made up for that. I had more fun with Traitor's Keep than I did with any of the quests in the main game. The enemies were tougher, the characters were more interesting, and the story actually kept me hooked.
I haven't had a lot of time to play, so it took me around a month or so to get through it. I've played God of War: Ghost of Sparta and Retro Game Challenge a bit whenever I have idle time at work, and I've also been playing Little Big Planet with my soon-to-be four year old.
I just popped in The Orange Box today for the first time in a few years with the intention of playing and beating Portal for the first time, but my OCD compelled me to play through Half Life 2, Episode 1 and Episode 2 first. I'll probably end up finishing Half Life 2 next. See you next update!

Haha, after I finished Portal 2 I thought I would play some Portal, popped it in and started HL, not 5 or so hours into it. I have never finished it on the Xbox (finished the first a couple times on PC and Episode 1 once, never finished 2 so good to play them through again before hitting 2), so at least it is on a new platform. Amazing how well its held up.jfe2 wrote: I just popped in The Orange Box today for the first time in a few years with the intention of playing and beating Portal for the first time, but my OCD compelled me to play through Half Life 2, Episode 1 and Episode 2 first. Yeah, for a game that came out in '04 IIRC, it holds up really well. I like how it doesn't hold your hand how most FPS games do now.emwearz wrote:Haha, after I finished Portal 2 I thought I would play some Portal, popped it in and started HL, not 5 or so hours into it. I think I'm near the end right now, about six hours into it.

the games i have been playing i just can't beat...yet. i was about half way through rayman for the saturn and i had to use the save battery for something else. sub-terrania, a game i didn't like at first but has grown on me, is hard as nails. i felt like i needed something more doable, which is why i popped in FFCD. the game is great.

- contra (NES) (4/14/11) -- thumbs up
- NEW f-zero (SNES) (4/22/11) -- one thumb up
- NEW the legend of zelda (NES) (5/1/11) -- thumbs up
happened to play three series debuts in a row. hadn't played the original f-zero before. i don't have a problem with difficulty in principle, but the difficulty in the original f-zero is frustrating because you can't attack your rival cars as in the sequels, and it's so annoying to get rammed by them over and over. otherwise it was pretty fun, even though the last track, fire field, is anomalously hard.
haven't beaten the original zelda in something like 20 years, although i pretty much had it memorized when i was a kid. it definitely shows its age, though, more so than the NES mario games. enjoyable, though, and it was fun seeing all the stuff i'd forgotten about, like the clock item. definitely still a classic.
