Re: Wives...
You know what guys? We should make a guide for gaming as couples. What games to use to get them into gaming, how to tidy up your collection so they don't get mad, and other useful stuff

Good genre to potentially hook a non gamer: Adventure, or simulation, depending on how complicated it is.ZeroAX wrote:You know what guys? We should make a guide for gaming as couples. I speak from experience. I got my wife interested in games with Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Harvest Moon.
In general, the less "twitch", the better. Twitch comes later.

Thanks. You did not disappoint.
I see you are making broad sweeping generalizations again. Can you really not see how naive those kind of statements are? How narrow-minded and uncultured must you be if you really think you understand everyone's situation? Hell, marriage and its function differs broadly from culture to culture, let alone person to person.Marriage is for fools and gold diggers. Don't shoot the messenger.

I think it's an excellent idea ZeroAX. I can already see some qualifiers - dating, married, and for my personal situation - kids. Reason I say that, I think 10 years ago my wife would've had enjoyed sim games/strategy games, and stuff like Harvest Moon or Zelda Ocarina (encompassing elements like strategy, puzzles, action, storyline) but not the stuff that would turn her away = violence for violence sake, blood guts and gore.CFFJR wrote:Good genre to potentially hook a non gamer: Adventure, or simulation, depending on how complicated it is.ZeroAX wrote:You know what guys? However at this point, she would say she doesn't have the time to give a game like Harvest Moon, and in reality she probably doesn't. Again, for our situation and getting her involved, I think my best "in" are puzzle games. Quick...and potential to beat me:). She has always enjoyed Tetris and similar stuffs. Recently she has been giving WordJong and Boom Blox a little love. She rather be quilting still, but the wall is showing minor signs of weakness...

I've found that Inazuma's posts make a lot more sense when you just look at the point he's trying to make, and ignore the angry yelling parts that don't make sense.AppleQueso wrote:There you go "spewing illogical bullshit in an attempt to argue against him".dsheinem wrote:Inazuma wrote:I wasn't going to post anything here because people would flip their shit like always, but since you asked...

Fixed that for ya.SplashChick wrote:I've found that Inazuma's posts make a lot more sense when you just ignore 90% of what he's saying.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I don't agree with much of what he says either, but if half of every topic he shows his face in is just people saying he sucks, he's probably going to stop posting at all. I would, in his situation. If you don't like what he says, just ignore it.MrEco wrote:Fixed that for ya.SplashChick wrote:I've found that Inazuma's posts make a lot more sense when you just ignore 90% of what he's saying.

Re: Wives...
My wife enjoys some video games but definitely does not have the passion that I have for them. It's cool to play the occassional game together. We beat New Super Mario Bros. Wii together and currently working on Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii. She's not big on 3D type games though.
I'm fine w/ this though. Even if she hated video games w/ a passion it still wouldn't affect our marriage. Hey, I look forward to making some little Evildeadmen/womenwalkings for share my love of gaming w/!

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

My other half is every bit the video-gamer I am, we come at it from different ends though, more PC as opposed to my arcade. Our tastes converge sometimes with say Crazy Taxi or Paper Mario, and other times, it devolves into a "how can you say Phoenix Wright is a more engaging game than SFIII:3s" debate. Which is fine, 'cos I always win
