Re: Anonymous strikes again
As others have said, this fiasco certainly will not kill the PlayStation brand, but it will hurt it. I wonder how this will change the public's opinion about Sony. Maybe some of their recent shenannigans will be brought to light all at once.

Sony could have just put the entire world at risk of these hackers.

Re: Anonymous strikes again
Hey free PlayStation game! Sweet deal! Hopefully it's something good that I don't already have, but hey I'll take it! I guess the free month of PSN+ and Qriocity isn't bad either. But I believe things you get on PSN+ don't carry over if you don't subscribe so that kinda sucks. Does anyone know if the discounted things you get stay with you if you don't keep your + account? I wouldn't mind some games on the cheap and I may have to pick up a PSN card if possible.

Damn, this thing keeps getting bigger. I wonder if the people behind this will ever be caught. If they are caught - and they happen to be in a country that allows the US or the UK extradition privileges - the perpetrators are perhaps looking at a lot of prison time.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Look at it this way: the hackers essentially have a supercomputer at their disposal, with the means and knowledge to use it effectively. They could potentially destroy governments around the world by just overpowering them. They could easily take money from smaller governments without great security (many African nations) and mess with worldwide economies.Flake wrote:Damn, this thing keeps getting bigger. Sony's incompetence could potentially cause the most chaos in history.

It was a hypothetical scenario that wasn't able to unfold. They have no supercomputer at their disposal.According to Sony's bare-bones account, the information was compromised from April 17 to April 19. By the following day, the PSN was taken offline. That means the scenario raised by Ray, the researcher who said attackers may have wanted to build their own supercomputer botnet, almost certainly didn't have enough time to unfold.

Stuff you buy you get to keep. The stuff you get free with Plus you can't keep. You must keep paying for the subscription. For that reason alone it's not worth the money. Ever. You're going to have to buy every single game they offer for free just to make the subscription work for you, chances are you're going to own quite a few of them anyway. The other perks you get just don't cover the cost of the service at all. It's pointless.Betamax001 wrote:Hey free PlayStation game! Sweet deal!
