Still yearning for Dreamcast 2? You're retarded.

Really? Did you play Grandia 2, Frame Gride, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Ikaruga, Phantasy Star Online, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Power Stone, or Soulcalibur?
No, No, Gamecube version yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes.

When I said I tried to love it. I mean it. I amassed around 25-30 of the "best" games for the system, and there were only about 3 that ever held my attention. Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Sega Rally 2. Unless you include Propeller Arena and Half Life. I thoroughly enjoyed both of those, but, seeing as they weren't released, they really don't make an impact on my opinion. Not that they would anyway.
If not even one of those games held your attention, you're a very strange specimen.

Still though, my point was that's definitely not what was going on during the development of DC games.

The Dreamcast was perhaps before your time. The guys (like me) that were there from day one absolutely adore it because the games were amazing at the time. Dreamcast is easily my most played console to date. I must have logged at least 300-400 hours in PSO alone. It has hands down the best good game to crap game ratio of any popular console ever. Given all the titles on the system and choosing at random you'd be hard pushed to find a game that isn't good.

Hurray, something Niode and I can agree on.

Perhaps it really is a 'you had to be there' thing. I remember fighting with the folks at Toys R Us to get my Dreamcast on launch day because they lost my pre-order reservation for it. It was worth the fight, though.

Pretty sure the Dreamcast had one of the best launch line-ups ever, on top of that - so it really was a great console from day one.

If it was before my time, why do I love the Genesis and Saturn so much?

However, I think you and the7k hit it on the button. It was probably a 'you had to be there' thing, which unfortunately, I'll never understand.

Because I wasn't, I was playing my PS1 then a little later PS2.

Edit: And to respond to Flakes message below, I love arcade gameplay but I don't care for the Dreamcast. I must be fucking crazy.

I wasn't there. For some reason the Dreamcast wasn't even a blip on my radar. Maybe it was the die hard Nintendo mindset I had growing up.

10 years later, my girl friend buys me a Dreamcast as a birthday present. And now I have 5 spare dreamcast consoles, the VGA set up, saturn to DC adapters, almost the entirety of Capcom's DC catalog, numerous imports, sealed copies of prized Dreamcast games....

The Dreamcast is like a force of nature for gamers that enjoy arcade style gameplay, no matter when they come across it.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

That's very strange. The arcade ports were the biggest reason to own a Dreamcast. It was arcade perfection in your home, partly thanks to it sharing the same hardware (albeit less memory) as the Naomi arcade machines.

I definitely think it was a 'had to be there thing' I definitely agree, everybody who I've met that had a Dreamcast from day one absolute adored it. There is something special, almost magical about the machine. I still absolutely love playing my Dreamcast and can't be without it. The games will never become old to me, they are timeless.

I read about half the article before closing the window, what total dribble.
While I hope and dream that maybe a sequel to my favourite Sega console will be made one day, I'm not holding my breath.
I know this is a retro gaming site and I don't need to push the point, but just because its old doesn't mean that its not fucking awesome.

It's also my favorite console of all time. Went to an older cousin's birthday party back in late 1999 and he and his friends were playing NBA 2K and knew I had to have one. Unfortunately I was only ten at the time and had to wait a while but i eventually received one. 60-70 games, a ton of of extra controllers and over a decade of playing time on that same machine later and it's still my favorite and most played console ever.

i kind of agree with ryan on this one, for some reason i just really can't get all that into the dreamcast. i don't know why. the saturn is my favorite console ever, i love the genesis since i grew up with one, but i just can't get into the DC anymore. i don't know why. some of the games are great, but i just can't fuck with that stupid controller. though it is a lot better than the obnoxiously large 3D pad for the saturn.

maybe one day i'll get another one and rediscover it all over again. then, maybe, it'll be fun for me. maybe.
