Still yearning for Dreamcast 2? You're retarded.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Still yearning for Dreamcast 2? You're retarded.

Post by s1mplehumar »

Randomly stumbled on this article from September, 2009 while searching for Odyssey images. It might be old shoe to you guys, but thought I'd post it anyway.

Evidently I'm retarded. :? I don't exactly clutch my pillow at night, and wake with cool, moist cheeks or anything, but I do have a fond attachment to Sega's last hurrah

I've read failed humor articles in the past, but this was just depressing.

The Dreamcast produced some good games, no doubt. Not enough to warrant the intense love of the system though (in my opinion). The controller has got to be one of the worst in the entire history of video games, and many of the arcade ports (Crazy Taxi immediately comes to mind, Sonic Adventure) have not held up that well, even a short few years later. There are still new games being made for it, but they're always shmups. I suppose if you're a shmup fan and can handle that nasty controller, it's heaven.

Best to keep those rose-coloured glass on when reminiscing about the Dreamcast. 8)

That article was completely lacking in taste. There is nothing wrong with liking a game system that's old, or even with liking it better than a newer system.

Perhaps if learned to write properly it wouldn't be so ironic.

You know, I tried to love the Dreamcast as much as everybody else. I love the Genesis, and I love the Saturn immensely, but, I just can't find out what's so special about the Dreamcast.

Yes it had some fantastic games, Jet Grind Radio and Crazy Taxi are two of my favorite games. However, nearly all the games on it had this odd feeling too them. It's like even the developers knew the Dreamcast wasn't going to last long so they either didn't put effort into the games (PS1 ports) or if they did, they almost felt tailored to other consoles in case the DC went down, which of course, it did. Also, despite it's capabilities to produce long and content filled games, most games seem to be fairly lacking in content, even compared to quite a few later PS1 games. Which again, I attribute to that sinking ship feeling the Dreamcast had from the start. Though, a side effect of that seemed to be that Sega was willing to publish just about any game idea they could think of in hopes of getting a little more profit, resulting in some truly unique games.

That said, I think the article is very distasteful. People like what they like, and to call somebody stupid for liking something is retarded in itself.

Today's video game industry sucks for many reasons. The Dreamcast reminds me of the days when making fun games for gamers was what video games were all about.

Nowadays, there are far too many shitty American FPS games with DLC up the ass. Today's gaming industry can't hold a candle to the days of Sega, Nintendo and NEC.

If preferring good games over bad games makes me retarded, then so be it.
