Solved: Beats Of Rage PS2

Post by noiseredux »

UPDATE: Well it took me a couple of nights, 4 DVD-R's, 1 CD-R and a whole lot of various downloads, and reading but I got my BOR compilation working. Ultimately, I had to do a lot of stuff: break the CDI, build a new ISO, burn it, rip the burn, convert the PAL to NTSC and finally ESR patch it. BUT now it's done, and I'm happy. :)

I spent a long time downloading 18 parts to this DVD. Then I burned it and realized it wasn't ESR patched. So I ripped that DVD to an ISO. I ESR patched it and it booted, but just to a weird FMB looking screen, that seemed to be PAL cuz it was all wonky off center and still couldn't load it.

Anyone have a WORKING DVD of the Beats Of Rage mods for PS2 that they could copy for me?

I knew about various Dreamcast versions, surprised there is one for the PS2.

Looks like you need CDGENPS2.

Found this:
How To Break A CDI To Play A Mod On Your PC

What Do I Need?

* IsoBuster
* CDgenps2 or Selfboot
* WinRar

* Extract the CDI onto your harddrive somewhere using winrar.
* Open ISOBuster.
* Go to File -> Open Image File
* Navigate to the CDI that you just extracted.
* Find that CDI file, and double-click on it, to open it in ISOBuster
* A List of the files inside that CDI will then appear in ISOBuster. Select the BOR.pak file, and right-click on it
* Select "Extract BOR.pak" from the menu that appears.
* Navigate to the folder you want to place the mod into.
* Press "Save" to copy that file into the directory.

How Do I Play It On My PS2?

* Download PS2BOR
* Download cdgenps2 if you plan on running PS2BOR from cdrom
make a new cd creation using cdgenps2 with BOR.ELF and the BOR.PAK you extracted from the cdi. Be sure to add a system.cnf.
* If you need a system.cnf Create a new text file and place this into the file. Once you have done that you can rename the file to SYSTEM.CNF
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\BOR.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = NTSC
* Older console users may want to add a very big dummy file to your cd. Lots of these mods are always loading and can take a heavy toll on your laser!
Last line re-emphasizes my point of avoiding CDRs and DVDRs on the PS2. Yet another reason to go the HDAdvance/HDLoader route.

yeah I had seen those directions, I guess I'll give all that a go. Scratching my head though. Why'd they make it a DVD if it wasn't meant to just be burned and played?

That is strange I thought it was a CDR. I think you can create a whole new disc with a CDR.

Here is an interesting read:

the one I downloaded is a DVD, I found it on snesorama (the same page that had the directions you copied and pasted). It's a DVD compilation of MANY BOR builds. I'd really like to get it working as it will be a nice compilation to show various versions.

but if you've got a link to just a single CDR of BOR that I can burn and play, let me know as well.

I'll keep an eye out, may have to get that DVD compilation myself. I have always been put off by the Beats of Rage series. Reminded me too much of the stiffness in the Arcade Final Fight. I should really try these out, there are so many different varieties using that BOR code.

how about this, make a nice ESR-patched DVD that will boot in a PS2. Stick it in an envelope. Send that envelope to me.

I'd actually just be happy if anyone could find me a burnable ISO of the regular PS2 port of Beats Of Rage at this point...

or perhaps BOR was ported to PS1 and I don't know about it? If so a burnable ISO for PS1 would make me just as happy...

I have not forgotten, just so busy going thru all the Buy 2 Get 2 Free stuff. The download will take a while, plus dealing with the conversion all tying up the wife's computer. Why not try CDGENPS2?

If you ever get a Dreamcast there are tons of BOR varieties, even saw a BOR Kill Bill posted.

I'm once again getting ready to go out the door for another uncommon to find game spotted on the Gamestop site. Someone hit me the sale is over and I'm still looking! :lol:
