Hmm, well Return to Na Pali was just like "more levels" to me, but yeah comparison wise it wasn't as good (and like 1/5th as long as the main game). Fighting those humans on top of that one ship almost made me quit though, that was a pain.Ack wrote:First of all, Unreal was a great single-player experience, though I didn't care as much for the Return to Na Pali expansion. I also enjoyed Unreal 2, but maybe that's just me. I do wish we could bring back the days of honoring individuals for creative and interesting map designs, but those are long past.
Honestly though I'm questioning what Half-Life 2 Episode 3 would have been anyway. It's been in development for how long? It better be a full length title by this point.
I know what you mean about the map designers and such. Unreal levels are like the best thing Cliffy B's done in my book, haha. Let's just get it out there that beyond Unreal and UT I'm not a big Epic fan. I will have to give Unreal 2 a shot sometime though.
Episode 2 came out in 2007. I think the only way I'd be pleased at this point is if:
- It just becomes straight up HL3. Episode 1 was like 2-4 hours max, 2 was a bit longer. Whatever comes next definitely better be a lot longer than these. Just funny to go back in time when they were talking about this approach to the series, how they'd be able to quickly get out episodes of new stuff and fast forward to now, all we got was two parts in nearly five years (Episode One came out in 2006).
- Maybe they're working on a new engine. Valve can continue tweaking Source all they want, but it's getting pretty old. It certainly brought Havoc's physics engine into the masses and was way better optimized than stuff like Doom 3 or something at the time, but it's starting to show its age and I'd like to see Valve try and step it up again in bringing out another new engine that other companies will strive to beat. If this is what's taking so long, it'll be a worthy excuse to me.
