What is your favorite pre-32 bit system for shmups? Vote and reply with your favorite 8 or 16 bit shmup on that system.
Personally, I'm leaning towards the TurboGrafx-16 and Blazing Lasers. But with my attention span that is sure to change soon.

Re: Favorite 8 or 16 Bit System for shmups
I voted Neo Geo, but Genesis REALLY tempted me
Re: Favorite 8 or 16 Bit System for shmups
The PC Engine is the shmup KING
Re: Favorite 8 or 16 Bit System for shmups
Does this even need to be asked? PC ENGINE FTW
Re: Favorite 8 or 16 Bit System for shmups
If anyone did NOT vote PC Engine, then they really don't have experience with the full spectrum of 8/16-bit consoles. It really is no comparison.
The Mega Drive/Genesis/CD is probably second with a large amount of good quality shooters and a few great/top level ones there (ie. Thunder Force III and IV, Bari Arm, Robo Aleste, Lords of Thunder, Keio, etc.
The SNES/SFC is next with more top level ones than the Genesis/MD, but doesn't have the quantity of good shooters.
The Neo Geo and NES have some really great ones, but the number of quality ones just is not there when compared to the other systems here.

So, the NES or the PC Engine? The SNES technically has entries into it as well.swiftzx wrote:I voted for the one that has the Soldier series

Re: Favorite 8 or 16 Bit System for shmups
TurboGrafx-16, hands down. The TG16 shmup library had both quality AND quantity going for it.
At a distant second and third would be Neo Geo and Genesis respectively. Neither of them have nearly as many quality shmups as TG16, but they each have a couple of gems in their libraries--like Neo Geo's Last Resort or Genny's MUSHA.

Never was a rabid SHMUP fan so pardon the newness of this question, but did the TG16/TGX/PCE have any exclusive shooter series? (I know a few titles that migrated to other systems.)
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
