Sony did have it nearly perfect. The original 80gb PS3's use software emulation only for playing PS2 games. Only the 60gb actually had PS2 hardware in it.Ziggy587 wrote:What I don't get is that if people are able to create PS2 emulators for the PS3, why the hell can't Sony do this and release it in a firmware update/download from PSN? Probably because they wouldn't be able to get 100% perfection, so they wouldn't want to release something like that... but they could just make a compatibility list and have it grow with future updates. How many more PS3's would sell if ALL PS3's could play PS2 games? I get making the cheaper consoles and taking the PS2 hardware out. But if emulation is purely software than how would that cost them any more money to manufacture a console? Maybe I'm missing something and don't fully understand, but I just wonder why.
Linux returns to PS3. Yes, that's both fat & slim models.

The 80gb ones still had the Graphics Synthesiser chip in them. The EE chip was taken out, but the b/c wasn't totally software.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Sony did have it nearly perfect.
