How did I miss this thread??

Here's what I have so far...

1) Streets of Rage 2- Gen
2) Golden Axe II- Gen
3) Space Harrier II- Gen
4) Play Novel: Silent Hill- GBA
5) Night Striker- Sega Mega CD
6) Silent Hill 2- PC
7) Silent Hill 4- PS2

I just beat Silent Hill 4 for the first time. It's a great game considering the changes to the gameplay. I really enjoyed the storyline. I thought it was incredible that they built the story around a serial killer that gets some incredibly vague mention in SH2. Very creative writing.

I think the game would've benefited significantly with a tank control option; especially in a game where camera angles change frequently. Combat was improved from the previous games and you get a wide variety of melee weapons (but a crappy selection of firearms...:? ).

I never had trouble with the enemies. They were incredibly easy to defeat... Except for those freaking ghosts!!! I hate those ghosts! They weren't difficult to avoid by yourself but seeing as half the game is an escort mission they get in the way a lot. It doesn't help that the woman you escort is useless. I'd just leave her somewhere while I go solve puzzles and go back and get her when I'm finished.

Overall, it's good but very tedious. Going back and forth to your apartment and from the Otherworld is a major turnoff. If you're not a die-hard Silent Hill fan just stay away from this one. However, for the SH fan it is a game you probably wouldn't want to miss.

Halo: ODST
Halo: Reach
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Half Life 2: Episode 2
Super Mario Bros (Snes)*new*

Finished Super Mario Bros (All Stars Version) today, probably inspired by geozeldadude's recent thread about completing all the main Mario games. I've got to admit, playing through Super Mario Bros really made something click. I think up until now I've been stuck into the FPS genre a little too much, so it was a nice change of pace. Looking forward to playing through another Mario title soon!

3. 3/27 - Megaman X (SNES)
4. 3/31 - Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
5. 4/05 - Klonoa (Wii)
6. 4/07 - Donkey Kong Returns (Wii)
7. 4/19 - Street Fighter II (SNES)
8. 4/22 - Enslaved :Journey to the West (360)

It was my first time beating Street Fighter II since I was a kid. I beat it this time with Ken on the default difficulty setting. I played around with some other characters, but Ken is always the character I feel the most comfortable with. The opponent I had the most trouble with was Vega, all his hopping around is ridiculous. Next I'm going to step up and tackle Super Street Fighter II, and keep working my way up from there to Alpha, 3, etc.

I though Enslaved was great. It has a great story and really good pacing. The story telling, acting and presentation is fantastic. The graphics are really good, I personally really love the colorful post-apocalyptic art style. The game is fun, very similar to "Prince of Persia" on 360 and PS3. The only complaint I have with the game, and an unfortunate shared aspect with Prince of Persia, is that it is way too easy. The only time I remotely had trouble was with combat at the very beginning, but as soon as you start upgrading things only get easier. The "puzzles" in the game required little to no thought. If they had made the game more challenging I would give it a 90%+, but because of how easy it is I'd give it a 80%. Still really great.

I would like to strongly suggest you buy this game if you like action adventure games. I was sad to see this game in the bargain bin for $15 at GameStop the other day. We should all be supporting developers like Ninja Theory. The amount of creativity and charm their games have makes me smile when I play their games. I would much rather have something like this over CoD any day of the week.

Hmm...this title was hit and miss with me. There is a lot I liked about it, but there's also a lot that bothered me. I suppose I should attempt to break down my thoughts on this briefly(for me).

Ok, what I liked: first, the story captured the noir sensibilities it was going for, and while much of the plot required knowledge of the first game to understand(I've never played the first game), Remedy covered that by including a section labeled "Previously" in the main menu, which explained the overall plot and who the characters were. I wish more game developers would implement features like this in long-running game series that rely heavily on the story. It would be greatly helpful.

Anyway, the story unfolds via cut scenes and graphic novel panels, which were designed by photographing actors in various poses. A different set of voice actors were used, but the two mesh together pretty well. The story kept me interested, and I genuinely found myself wondering what was going on. The setting also features several television shows which run in the background but help influence the mood, as if they represent the tone of the game at any given time. I liked these quite a bit, and I liked that they resolved themselves over the course of the game.

The musical choices were good, giving the game a somber and muted tone that worked in tandem with the art style. As stated above, the voice acting meshed well with the game.

Moving on to weapon choices, I have mixed feelings. I never got much use out of the secondary weapons(grenades, molotovs), and pistol whipping seemed largely useless. Some of the guns felt extremely well done, but others started strong and then ended up poor mockeries of what they should have been by the end of the game. The Desert Eagle was a particularly annoying weapon, one that I loved at the start of the game but hated at the end, when enemies suddenly were able to take multiple rounds from it to the body at point blank range and hardly flinch. I don't care what kind of body armor you're wearing, if I shoot you three times in the chest from a foot away with one of these suckers, you're at least going to feel it.

I think my time with this game would have been greatly improved if I had played it on PC, as the PS2's analog sticks just never felt like they were competent and smooth enough to do the job I needed. There were multiple instances where I wished I was using a mouse instead to aim, and though I attempted to use auto aim, it apparently likes to lock on a point a good foot over someone's head, so I was more than a little wary of it.

Also, I dislike babysitting missions, and Max Payne 2 features several. In one I had to protect a guy in a mascot suit, but that wasn't so bad as he would run off and hide every time enemies showed up. But then there were the Mona missions, which I hated. Between the combination of having to babysit poor AI and try to snipe moving targets with a controller that I never felt was up to snuff, it quickly turned her levels into an exercise in frustration.

The only level where I had greater difficulty was the final level, and that was from a combination of not knowing what to do, having limited ammo, having to run through rooms as fast as I could (you get blown up if you don't), and having enemies whose bodies were apparently comprised of tank armor. After getting wasted multiple times in places where I thought I should have survived (at one point I unloaded an Uzi clip into a guy's face, and he lived to kill me), I nearly quit the game in frustration, but decided to stick it through and put up with it because I was so far.

I feel the game would have benefited from a quick save feature, but again, this is probably because I was playing the console port of the game. And though you can skip cutscenes, I don't suggest it as you then have to sit through a loading screen. The game has lots of loading screens. Again, perhaps the PC version lacks this issue.

So that's it, my(failed) attempt to be brief while discussing a game I just beat. Overall I liked the game, but I think I would have liked it more if I had played it on a different machine.

I beat the Japanese Import of this game, so I may reference a few things that were changed when it was brought over to the United States. First off, I liked the game immensely. I love the characters (most of them anyway), the stages are well designed, and the game has a sense of humor about itself that I greatly appreciate. But I don't think I'm very good at them, as certain characters pounded me quite a bit when I started out (and one in particular still gets to me).

I should say that I haven't played many Darkstalkers games. My experience with the series characters largely came from crossover games like Marvel Vs. Capcom, where Morrigan was my main. I figured coming into this game that she'd be similar: big mistake on my part. After getting trounced with her several times, I eventually gave up and switched over to a new choice: Zabel (Lord Raptor for those of you in the US). He's strange, quirky, and has a good mix of range from a large variety of basic attacks which can be laced into combos easily. I loved playing as him and finding out what I could do. I still got my ass kicked several times while learning him, but I soon managed to earn my first perfect, something I was never able to do with Morrigan.

If I have any complaint, it's that I'm stuck using the Model 1 Saturn controllers, and I really don't like these things. This is a game that I really would want an arcade stick for, or barring that, a Model 2 controller, as the shoulder buttons and D-Pad on the Model 1s bother me. There's also a lack of modes in this game, which I suppose limits the appeal. I really wish I had someone to play it with who has a much deeper understanding, so I could pick up some insights from them on how to play.

Oh, as for that character who still continues to wipe the floor with me, it's Aulbath (Rikuo). I just can't figure him out, I ended up only beating him by abusing Zabel's range whenever he would come in for the kill.
