Do we live in the age of spoilers?

One thing I have noticed from a lot of sites I go to or podcasts I listen to is that whenever people go to a Comicon panel or any other type of convention, they always leave knowing stuff about what's going to happen on a show before it actually does

I have noticed that whenever they have panels with people from a show it seems they always spoil something. I am very much anti-spoiler, but I always thought these panels seemed very cool as a way to meet and interact with people from your favorite shows, but damnit they always spoil something it seems. I was listening to a Fringe podcast and they mentioned something from a panel they were at and it spoiled something that I didn't want to know. I'm starting to be turned off to the whole idea of attending conventions if they are nothing more than just one big spoiler fest

Do we just live in the age of spoilers now? Sometimes even tv previews will go ahead and blow the coolest part of an upcoming episode of a show. I HATE that. I was lucky enough not to see a Fox commercial for last week's episode of Fringe that blew away the coolest surprise of the episode. Fortunately, it aired during American Idol, a show I wouldn't even watch if forced to at gunpoint so I didn't see it

Then you have all of the websites and forums out there that seem to LOVE spoiling stuff. I really hate when people feel like they don't have to spoiler warning something just because it is no longer on the air. That doesn't mean that ever person on the planet has seen the damn thing already

Yep. It's a problem. Especially for a comic and wrestling fan like me, which those two mediums rely heavily on surprise. But then it's been a problem for like a decade now. Too late to put that Genie back in the bottle. However SOME people could not be jackwagons by using spoiler tags in the title of their threads.

The solution is simple though: Avoid discussions pertaining to any work of fiction until after you've experienced it yourself.

The best solution is stop doing whatever it is you're wasting your time on now and just play Portal 2.

Heh, sorry, I just had to point out how great this post is.

As for spoilers...well, yes, we live in an age of increased communication, where anything that anyone says can be read by the masses. And if you had spent several years working on some of these films, movies, stories, etc., you're going to want to talk about it, and now you have access to an enormous audience.

I've found that if you haven't played every game in a series, you shouldn't look at the series page on tvtropes. Great way to spoil everything.
