What's A Good Price Point For An iPad Magazine.
Hey I'm in the process of bringing my classic video game magazine to the iPad and was wondering what you guys thought would be an acceptable price point? The mag is 65 pages of content (i.e. no ads), so what do you think? $3? $5? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I think $3 is a fine price point. $5 might be okay too, but of course the lower price point would be preferable.
Have you given any thought to developing and releasing for Android Tablets as well? They are really starting to take off in popularity with the Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom, etc. I have an Android Tablet myself so I might be a potential customer for that market...

I'd say $5 would be a bit high, $3 is closer. I'd also recommend, if possible anyway, some sort of low end "cheap" version. I'm not sure how you could manage that with a magazine, maybe have a small portion of it available as sort of a demo for free/cheap. People are usually happy to waste a few bucks on a game they don't know, but I would assume a magazine would be a somewhat more difficult sale. Though if the previous small amount of content you showed us of your magazine is any indicator, I know that I'd drop some cash on it.
Also, depending on how regularly you publish it, a discounted subscription price would probably do wonders for sales.
I second the Android sentiment by the way, I don't really plan on picking up an iPad, but I do plan on picking up an Android tablet at some point, and the Android Market is a much more open store as well, so you'd have more control, and if I'm not mistaken a higher cut of the profits.
Good luck to you man!

$3 seems just about right for a digital magazine. I have an iPad, but I also agree with kelsoanim that considering an Android version would be a good idea, as well. Maybe work it out so that you could sync your purchases across Android and iOS.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I am going to launch at $3. I can't do subscriptions at the moment because apple doesn't allow it. As far as the android platform goes, I am planning to be on there eventually, but the company I'm publishing through only does the iBookstore at the moment.
