Yoshitaka Amano is amazing, the box art for FF VI is awesome. They need to get him back.

Where did he go? He was the illustrator for FF XIII.

He didn't go anywhere, he's just shifted from doing all the concepts to just doing a few things, such as the logo.

the only instance I've seen of Square going back to its roots was Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light, which is basically a sequel to Mystic Quest, but more more cavity educing.
