Blades of Steel
Blades of Steel
I haven't played the NES version in 15 years or more but do have the GB. It isn't close but the one improvement is there is much better ability for the goalie to control the puck. The downside is the opposing team camps out in front of your net, steals the goalie's pass, and scores before you have the chance to say "bullshit!" The strategy is to steal passes which is pretty easy because once they get a shot on goal you're uncertain if you can make a clean pass back out to the players. Like the NES you can score 15-20+ goals. Maybe that was the genius of the series: it pisses you off when they steal from the goalie and score so you wanna beat the crap outta them even more.

Re: Blades of Steel
Blades was good but I strongly preferred "Ice Hockey." I thought it had tighter controls, memorable music, and it didn't have that annoying guy frequently yelling "hit the pass" or whatever the hell he was yelling.
The fights were really good in Blades though. I'll give it that

Blades of Steel is one of the few sports games I will never sell. It is just stupid fun.

You're out of your mind. Blades of Steel easily trumps Ice Hockey. I used to play the crap out of Blades with my brothers.

Re: Blades of Steel
Ice Hockey gets my vote here. Blades was a close second though.

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!
Re: Blades of Steel
Blades of Steel is awesome.
I wish real hockey worked like Blades. Whoever loses the fight loses a man and the other team gets a power play.

Re: Blades of Steel
for NES I'd go with Ice Hockey, but agree with the OP that Blades is really fun on GB.
