Sonic to Ankoku no Kishi (Sonic and the Black Knight)(Sonic with a sword)
Yeah they were Sonic, but not really. And even though Sonic Colors was just Sonic, he had had a bunch of new powers. I think a lot of people are excited about Generations because it looks like a true return to classic style Sonic.
Re: Sonic 20 year anniversary
You're right about that, and I understand, but for me classic Sonic includes Tails and Knuckles. They were a significant part of the original series.Inazuma wrote: Sonic World Adventure (Wolf form)

Plus, as a fan of those two characters, its kinda frustrating in the sense that the last time I got to play as either of them without some ridiculous gimmick getting in the way was Sonic Advance 2 (which didn't even play like its own predecessor, much less the classics). Its been a while.
For what its worth, I'm not looking for big differences between the characters. It'd be as simple as doing what was done in the genesis days. Tails and Knuckles have an easier time reaching higher areas. Knuckles can't jump as high (it'd honestly be better to go without this one). Job done.

I agree. I would prefer if Tails and Knuckles came back and had their classic gameplay intact too.CFFJR wrote:You're right about that, and I understand, but for me classic Sonic includes Tails and Knuckles. I always preferred playing as Tails in the old Sonic games myself.

I always though of playing Tails as the equivalent of playing on easy mode, since he can fly. So I preferred to play as Sonic.Inazuma wrote:I agree. Gotta disagree.BoringSupreez wrote: I always though of playing Tails as the equivalent of playing on easy mode, since he can fly. So I preferred to play as Sonic.
There were identical in Sonic 2 (someone, I don't know who it will be, but there's always one, is gonna come in here and claim Tails could jump higher. He couldn't. You were imagining that, mystery person). In Sonic 3, Sonic could reach any place Tails could, save for maybe a couple of special stage rings. It simply took longer.
Even then, if you played as Sonic with Tails following you, it was a simple matter to switch the controller ports for a moment, and have Tails grab Sonic and fly him anywhere you please. Its not a cheat to do so, and perfectly valid since if you had a second player with you they could do the same at any time.
I mean, would you call Knuckles easy mode, since he can climb, has different routes, and his game is quite a bit shorter?
I wouldn't say easy. I'd say different experience.
That was one beauty of the classic games. The characters weren't that different, but the level design was so damn good it changed the whole game.

Well no harsh feelings of course. I honestly like Tails and Knuckles a lot myself, but I guess I'm just so fed up with Sonic feeding us these other lame characters ever since the Adventure titles, I'm just like ... damn SEGA, just give us Sonic again for once and that's it or something!CFFJR wrote:Dude, I hate to argue with you, but its been "Sonic and that's that" for several years now.
That said it's not like I keep up with modern Sonic games, so I'm ignorant about them... but probably for good reason from all the things I hear about most of them and they all just simply don't look that fun to me. This one looks worth keeping an eye on though.
Tails and Knuckles making appearances would be fine with me in the end, but beyond that... no thanks!

Well, if you don't keep up with them now I can understand why you feel that way. Sonic Colors was all kinds of awesome, but other than that you haven't missed anything.Xeogred wrote:Well no harsh feelings of course. I buy them religiously (yeah, I'm that guy
The last main game to actually feature other playable characters in the story was Sonic 06. Shadow and Silver, boring. You've got the DS games, with Blaze, who's a poor substitute for, well, just about anybody. Sonic and the Black Knight had unlockables, in Blaze (yawn), Shadow (yawn again), and surprisingly, Knuckles, which was nice, but he didn't do much. None of them played as well as Sonic, and I'm assuming they were playable to throw people a bone.
I dunno, like I said earlier, I too am dying for that classic gameplay, but that includes Tails and Knuckles for me. I love Sonic, but after years of Sonic only, I'm ready for the other classic characters to get some respect again. This seems like the perfect game to do it in.
Again though, I understand how you feel about it. We'll simply have to agree to disagree on this one.
To tell you the truth though, as much as I want them in, I'm 99% sure they won't be. Them's the breaks.

Re: Sonic 20 year anniversary
If they could have extra characters in ala Sonic Advance, that'd be okay. They did a great job in that game of keeping the roster small and making the characters distinguish themselves.
But that's one successful 'Sonic and his Friends' title out of how many abject failures?
Sonic and his classic self is all we need playable for this game. Knuckles, Tails, and (maybe) Amy is all we need in the back ground.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Sonic 20 year anniversary
When I said Tails was easy mode, I had Sonic 3&K in mind, not 2. Yeah, in 2 it was actually hard mode, since you lost that guy giving you an extra hit against the boss once in a while. And no, I wouldn't say Knuckles was easy mode. In fact, I think of him as hard mode, since he can't jump as high, making some bosses harder.CFFJR wrote:Gotta disagree.BoringSupreez wrote: I always though of playing Tails as the equivalent of playing on easy mode, since he can fly.
