TOTALLY UN/UNDER-RATED GAME!!!!

Post by artphotodude »

Normally, I don't post reviews/opinions about games until I've finished them, but just had to share this one. Am currently playing the game The Darkness for the 360 that a kid at the local Gamestop talked me into for $5.00. How did this game fall so far under the radar???

Great Graphics!
STELLER Voice Acting!
Superb gameplay.

It literally has two COMPLETE classic movies you can watch on TVs throughout the game (To Kill a Mocking Bird and "The Man with the Golden Arm")

If you like moody, dark stuff - this is as good as it gets. Sort of everything that Indigo Prophecy wanted to be.

Pick this One Up!!!

I'm a big fan, but some people were dissapointed with some aspects of the gameplay. I loved the story though. The game had some creative, memorable approaches to telling a story and fantastic characters and dialogue. I loved the gameplay ideas, but understand how some people feel that they weren't fleshed out enough

I forgot about the tv thing. That was very original. Kind of like the songs on the radio stations in the Grand Theft Auto series. I really, really loved the part of the game where you see authorities arriving on a tv in the room right before you actually have to fight them. Lot of creative narrative tricks like that I liked about the game

Good news is, there is a sequel coming out. Bad news-or good news depending on one's perspective-is that it is a new developer

Also, if you didn't know, The Darkness was-and possibly still is for all I know-a comic book series

I loved this game so much when I originally played it that I after I finished it I bought some original prints of the first couple of comics that it’s based on.
I'm keeping an eye out for the sequel; let’s just hope that the new developer doesn't screw it up.

The Darkness comic is one of the best things I have ever read. I've yet to finish my ps3 copy because I have a problem with whatever engine is that Starbreeze (?) studio uses. It's really floaty and makes me nauseous, but it's got enough of the feel of the comic that I enjoy what little bursts of it I can play. There is a sequel being made using a different engine and it sounds like it's going to be as awesome, dark, and violent as the comics are.

I picked up the game on clearance a while back but haven't played it yet; good to hear that it sounds even better than reviews :)

The Darkness is such an awesome game. It's a real shame it's getting sequel-ized.

I think I have to disagree. If anything, it's a good thing it's getting sequal-ized. The comic universe is huge and it spans three different series. They already cut out and changed a lot of the comic just to make a reasonable plot for the game. Jackie goes through quite a few changes and a lot happens over the two volumes that I read and I'd rather be able to experience them a few at a time.

I loved it as well. I might have to repurchase/replay it at some point. I definitely need to have it in my collection, regardless.
