I'm not saying that Engineering is Science. I'm mentioning it because becoming an engineer requires a lot of education in Science. For example, at many schools an Electrical Engineering major can add a Physics double major with only a few extra courses (sometimes just one). I thought it was worth mentioning in response to the statement about Christian Republicans and Science and Education.Hatta wrote: Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for what Engineers do. Re: World Map According to Americans
My definition for the two has always been that Scientists discover the principles by which the universe operates, and Engineers put those principles into practical uses. I suppose that that is more or less what you said, but the way you said it makes them feel unnecessary and tangential.Hatta wrote:Engineering and science actually have very little to do with each other. Science is all about keeping an open mind and trying new ideas. Engineering is about strictly applying rules discovered by someone else. Looked at this way, the general ideological differences between the groups make a lot of sense.

Care to explain? I'm not sure what the implication you're making is. Allow me to add that I'm well aware that it's not just Americans that aren't geographically savvy.brunoafh wrote:I was waiting for "that guy" to show up here. Re: World Map According to Americans
I was wondering why a thread about a funny map had some many pages and then I quickly realized all the political issues things like Americans and geography bring up.
