Fuck. I really wanted to argue with you, but I have no way to argue with that.
White flag.
White flag.
Re: Final Fantasy, or Final Sci-FI?
Final Fantasy XII was a 10/10 effort compared to Final Fantasy XIII in almost every aspect (other than battle system).
Vaan was the poster boy for awesomeness compared to XIII's lackluster piece of shit, boring, uninspired cast.
Square Enix needs to pull there shit together, they have not made a decent game on a console, in my view since DQ8 / FFX.

Get back to us when you're done with the 30 hour tutorial.noiseredux wrote:I'm an hour or so into FFXIII. I don't hate it so far. (shrug)
Oh, and sorry but that's not an exaggerated joke at all.
(on a side note I think Snow's theme is probably the worst thing to happen to FF music. It's painful!)
Anyways, if Matsuno didn't get sick and didn't have to step down from FFXII towards the end of its production there, perhaps it would have been really good. But Vaan is absolutely SE doing some fan pondering at its worst... but I think Matsuno's team (well he's freelance now from what I know) are probably the last decent devs still around SE (FFT, Vagrant Story, FFXII, and previously before Square bought them they did the Ogre Battle / Tactics Ogre games). Literally just about any team that worked on a lot of their PSX classics aren't even part of them at all anymore. Square Soft and Square Enix are definitely two different worlds to me, and I highly doubt we'll ever see SE put out anything that great again until they realize maybe a new IP or two might be a good idea. I firmly agree with emwearz that they have not put out a decent game this entire gen so far.
They really should just change the company name to Final Fantasy. Or perhaps...
Square Kingdom 9999/25 Days Enix Duodecim 7391 Belts and Zippers By Sleep?
I think it's laughable how much power they've given Tetsuya Nomura over the years. Directing movies and games? He was a character designer and even that's gone down the tubes after FF7-8, I'm so sick of this guy it's insane.
Re: Final Fantasy, or Final Sci-FI?
Yeah, only at the end; a symbol for times to come? FFV was purer than IV, but FFIV's sci-fi was limited to Dr. Lugae, the Tower of Zot, and the spaceship to the moon, although I always saw the latter as magical rather than technological.Xeogred wrote:FF4 had a good bit of sci-fi later on too.

That doesn't count as a Zelda game in my eyes.o.pwuaioc wrote:Spirit Tracks?Markell1991 wrote:Nintendo wouldn't do that with Zelda.
That's a good point. There's airships and submarines, so it is more steampunk-fantasy that's true.Ack wrote:Admittedly though, even the older games weren't always pure fantasy. Final Fantasy VI was effectively steampunk in many ways, which is a subgenre of science fiction. Admittedly it's retrograde instead of futuristic, but I think it's something to consider.
That's what I'm talking about.Xeogred wrote:I'd say I liked the settings in 7-8 a good bit (7 moreso since it was a bit grittier), but after that in regards to the FF series trying to blend these things together, bleh. Definitely didn't care for the art design or sci-fi elements in 10 or 13.
How many people who grew up with (or just really likes) the older games, actually like X and later games? Do you still want them?
Re: Final Fantasy, or Final Sci-FI?
My god, ain't that the fucking truth.Xeogred wrote:I think it's laughable how much power they've given Tetsuya Nomura over the years. Directing movies and games? He was a character designer and even that's gone down the tubes after FF7-8, I'm so sick of this guy it's insane.
I'm also sick of him, and all of the FF diehards who still worship him like he's a god.
Please go the hell away for a couple of years Nomura, I'm tired of hearing your name.
Its actually kind of frustrating for me to say that too, because I do like Kingdom Hearts, but Square seems more interested in rehashing the same angle on that franchise over and over again rather than ever concluding the damn thing.
Also, I'm sick to death of Final Fantasy in general, so I'm sad to say I don't care what they do with the series anymore. Playing FF13 was just putting the last shovelful of dirt in the grave.
