Haha, I like that a lot. I saw the 'Europe According To England': put a smile on my face. I'd like to see a 'World according to China'
Re: World Map According to Americans
You seem surprised that Americans don't know about the world. I was more surprised that they didn't know about our country.
I went on a date with this girl a few nights ago that didn't know that D.C was different from Washington and that Seattle wasn't located on the east coast.

I was waiting for "that guy" to show up here. Didn't take long.

I can do that right now. Look at a world map. Imagine China being marked as red heaven, the US as those barbarians that owe us so much money that we send all our cheap plastic toys to, and the rest of the world as just regular barbarians. Oh, except Vietnam and Taiwan, which would be marked as those pigs who don't realize they're supposed to be Chinese.

It's really easy to mock stereotypes, but the reality is that kids everywhere suck at geography. America may be a bit lower, but not wholly worse. I've yet to meet a non-American who could accurately locate every state in the US, but plenty of educated people my age can.
And contrary to what was said earlier, it is a political issue. Christian Republicans are among the most anti-education and anti-science in the country. With their leadership in rural areas, the rest of the world gets ignored, thus producing ignorance.
Meanwhile, in Europe, the EU and the ease and convenience of traveling beyond their country (America is only touching two countries, and can get to only a few others with ease) make it easier to learn of surrounding countries.

Dude I doubt you learned that while working on your doctoral thesis in political science. So how about we keep the thread funny and not worry about bashing liberals or conservatives. Sound cool?

Funny you should mention that. Maps in China often refer to Taiwan as the 23rd province and it is listed in parenthesis as being (in rebellion). But then again, when it comes to China the hilarity and the irony never end.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Funny? OP's picture is far from funny.

For what it's worth, the population of American engineers trends both Christian and Republican.

There are a couple of red dots missing from the map.
Re: World Map According to Americans
Engineering and science actually have very little to do with each other. Science is all about keeping an open mind and trying new ideas. Engineering is about strictly applying rules discovered by someone else. Looked at this way, the general ideological differences between the groups make a lot of sense.
Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for what Engineers do. They work very hard and I'm sure I could not do their jobs. But what they do isn't science.
