Reading the recent posts about people having a hard time finding Steam matchups got me thinking that we should do more with the racketboy Steam group. I am an admin for the group, so I can make annoncements and host events and stuff. I should probably organize some events for meetups. We don't really do much with the Steam group, other than I make the occassional post that usually just links back to something on the site here.
What sort of things would you like to see our Steam group do? Are there themed events? Routine posts, or something that you would like to see more of? Let me know.

Unreal Tournament 99.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I'd be down for some Unreal. I bought the Unreal Pack on a Steam sale, so I have all the ones Steam offers. I don't have one that says 1999, but I assume that would be Unreal Tournament (Game of the Year Edition) according to Steam. It looks like the only Steam member that I have friended who owns that is Kevinski. Are there others here that have this game, but not on Steam?
A lot of people do have Unreal Tournament 3: Black
That's owned by dlmvii, Mr. Popo, creepr, Mozgus, derekg52, kevinski, fastbilly, and Niode.
Since I have like way too many Steam games, I can scan and see who else has each game in my library to see what is most popular and I could create events for those, since they are most likely to generate interest. It's possible that there are popular games that people have retail versions of, so that won't show up in my Steam list.

Unreal Tournmanet 3 would kick ass, but UT 2004 would be better.

I'd also prefer to play the GOTY edition or 2004 rather than 3, but judging by who owns the game on Steam, Unreal Tournament 3: Black is the most popular.
Do a lot of people have the older Unreal Tournament games from a source other than Steam? If there's enough people with Unreal, that could be a good game to start events with.
Also, do people want regular events? What would be the best way to schedule it? We could pick a game of the month and hold a weekly event throughout the month for that game.
How frequently should events be held? I don't want people to quit the Racketboy group because they get too many popups about events, but I would like to have them.
Do we want to focus exclusively on retro games, or should we play new games as well?

Alien Swarm is a good choice because it's free, so everyone should have access to it.
Other free games with multiplayer include Half Life 2: Death Match, Trackmania: Nations Forever, and Battleforge.
There's also a bunch of mods provided by Steam for those with a Source engine game, which most everyone has.

Re: What would you like to see the Racketboy Steam group do?
I own several copies of UT99 - GOG and multiple retail copies. I never did buy it on steam. I would be up for some UT, L4D2, or Alien Swarm. I am not much for TF2 or Global Agenda.
