Dreamcast not recognizing a disc

Post by NiGHTYNiGHTS »

So a while back I tried to revisit my favorite game, Grandia 2, but when I put the disc in my Dreamcast it told me there wasn't a disc in it at all. The disc is pretty scratched as I have had it since i was 10 and didn't really know how to take care of them back. I have other DC games from back then with more scratches and play just fine. All of the scratches appear to be on the surface and nothing deep that touches the metal. Normally scratching problems I've experienced just cause skipping or freezing in game. What do you guys think? Is there anything I can do to save my copy or should I just suck it up, buy a new one and keep my original as a memento of my childhood? :/

Some game shops have a machine inside which removes the top layer of a scratched disc (i think thats what it does  ),i have seen such a machine once in a gamestation store. There was a small charge for the service but it repaired a scratched call of duty disc (Pc) of mine.

It may also mean that the laser needs to be recalibrated. I returned quite a few DC games to gamestop back in the day thinking they were messed up when it was just my system.

Here is a tutorial: http://retro-hack.blogspot.com/2010/06/ ... guide.html
