Stranger's Wrath
I just delved back into my old Oddworld obsession and as my first time playing through Stranger's wrath i have to say I am extremely impressed. Great story, great original game play mechanic with the live ammunition and switch between 3rd and 1st person perspective. Then again I'm only halfway through, just past the big plot twist involving your identity so I don't know if it slows down from there. Why won't Microsoft redeem this title and give it the 360 treatment? It's easily one of the best games on the console and a nice upscale would just be neat. Anyone else a fan?

Thats kinda fitting, but it all really matters on how you play it (capture or kill). Around the 7 hours mark things get alot more hectic. Did you get to "New Yolk City" before you gave up?wyatt wrote:I gave it an honest try but could not get into it. After about 5 hours it just felt like a slow paced FPS which was a bad mix for me. It did have other great qualities however. Just not enough to keep me playing.

Honestly one of the best fps and adventrure games for the original xbox. Im like you I still have the game but Im waitin on Microsoft to added to 360 backward compatibility list. Sadly I traded my xbox for my 360 when gamespot where giving away $80 for it.

I was very underwhelmed. It was a generic shooter with a gimmicky weapon scheme. Not nearly as fun, creative or inspired as Munch's Odyssey.
I did like the whole kill them or knock them out system of fighting bosses though
Not to say the game sucked, but much less inspired than what came before it. The game dropped a LOT of the things that made Oddworld games so unique and memorable.

Even Lorne Laning (Oddworld creator) said that these games weren't as good as the PSone titles in terms of refinded gameplay.
Unfortunately I have played neither Munch or Strangers Wrath. They are the only reasons why I would buy an Xbox. Quite frustrating really as I loved the original two games. The themes behind the characters are just so captiviating.

Really, I just can't agree with you. The whole approach you take to enemies, the skulking around you do before you go in for a kill, and hell, the western atmosphere, all gave this a very unique feel that I thought worked fantastically. It wasn't the collect-a-thon that Munch's Odyssey boiled down to.Gamerforlife wrote:I was very underwhelmed. It was a generic shooter with a gimmicky weapon scheme. Skulk around? This game isn't a stealth game. You take some hits, find cover shake off the bullets and go back in. It's like playing Halo. The weapons are your standard shooter fare, they just happen to look like cute animals.AwesomeMonstar wrote:Really, I just can't agree with you. What about saving people and keeping them alive to build up your karma? What about actually having to interact with people to get them to help you with combat, puzzles, etc? What about that sense of community that Oddworld games had? What about the puzzle solving? What about mind controlling people? Stranger's Wrath had absolutely none of those things
Stranger's Wrath is NOT an Oddworld game. I refuse to acknowledge it as such. Which isn't to say I didn't enjoy it all, but it was a let down overall. Munch's Odyssey wasn't perfect, but at least it had the Oddworld spirit. Stranger's Wrath feels like a disappointing spin-off to me. It got so repetitive. There were no gameplay surprises along the way at all, which previous games had. It's just go to town, get bounty, shoot a bunch of people, collect bounty.
Just thought i'd pipe in and say. Stranger's wrath IS an Oddworld (tm) game. It's just not an Abe's/Munch's Odyssey game. Oddworld Inhabitants said that stranger's would be a completely different game to what has gone before just set in the Oddworld universe. The two games are in totally different time period and completely different places.
Even Abe's exodus is a spin off, they didn't intend on ever making the 'sequel'. They wanted to go straight to doing Munch's Odyssey (which is the proper sequel to Abe's Odyssey) but the technology just wasn't there yet (some say never will be with the ambition that they had at the time).
