Just as a follow-up to this topic where we discussed what Sega's biggest failure was, I wanted to focus more on Sega's downfall after shutting down the Dreamcast and focusing on software only.
During the tail end of the Dreamcast era, Sega had some very solid games in their portfolio. They had the gameplay and such down (all the aspects that really mattered), so if anything, you would think that if they made games for newer consoles like the Cube and XBox, they would be even better with enchanced graphical capabilities.
While we did see a number of Sega hits shortly after the Dreamcast's demise (Super Monkey Ball and Virtua Fighter 4) along with some gems that were commericially unsuccessful (JSRF and PD Orta), there were a lot of Sega games that seemed rushed and really discredited Sega a great deal.
The games that come to my mind initially are the 3D Sonic titles and Billy Hatcher.
What other games are marketing efforts do you think that Sega screwed up on AFTER the Dreamcast? What did they do well? What should they focus on?

I don't like how they've come.
This is only speculation, but with the close of hardware some things 'could' have occured.
1) known: they canned a lot of their software crew as is.
2) They spread the left overs thin to make multiple games to increase revenue
3) They don't know the hardware intimately enough to push it to the max like they did with their own consoles
4) They are trying to hard to be 'commercial' as to again increase profits.

Uhhg, they messed up alot after the DC. The first two titles which appear in my mind are Sonic Heroes & Shadow the Hedgehog. I've played some of Billy Hatcher but haven't given it much time. It felt that Sonic Heroes was rushed, and it didn't have enough story as its predecessors; Sonic Adventure 1/2.

The name Sega doesn't really mean much to me anymore these days. I just haven't been interested in any of their titles..it really is sad that I find more enjoyment in the budget Sega Ages titles http://ages.sega.jp/ that they make for PS2 over any of their other new/original stuff.
They really have made some bad choices. Lots of fans(including myself) are pissed that they aren't releasing and haven't given shit for information about Sega Ages: Phantasy Star: Generation 1 or Sega Ages: Phantasy Star Trilogy in America. A release in America is pretty much dead now in everyone's eyes, which is really a total shame.

This is what really pisses me off... we missed the Saturn one... now the PS2 one... WTF!?
Phantasy Star 4 is harder and harder to locate now because of it.

God no. I don't WANT a speedy Sonic game. The Advance titles were too fast and due to that, the stage design was incredibly lacking and you could beat a lot of stages by holding right.
The Adventure games were a nice speed, but anything faster would just be stupid. I like to be able to dodge things, damnit!
