Any Evangelion fans here? I have some questions

As some have pointed out, Rebuild of Evangelion is a re-imagining of Evangelion by Anno(the creator), being done because there are no restrictions on what he can do now(technologically, financially, or content-wise).

Set to consist of four movies, 1.11 and 2.22 have released theatrically and come to home video. No date yet for the third and fourth movies (likely to come to home video as 3.33 and 4.44), but last I read, they will be released theatrically fairly close to each other - perhaps six months apart.

1.11 retold and was very similar to the original anime's first six-seven episodes
2.22 started to diverge even more and had much more new content (both animation and story-wise). It covers through to the end of the original anime series. That means of course that 3.33 and 4.44 will be almost completely new material.

I wouldn't say it's George Lucas-itis...i mean...the Rebuild movies didn't really shit on our childhoods. If it was GeorgeLucas-itis, Anno would have to get rid of the old TV show and digitally add in a few scenes of Gendo giving Shinji a hug so he seems like less of a jerk.

I'd say its more RipleyScott-itis, what with the like 5 versions of Blade Runner and all

"At least Ridley properly remastered all versions and put them all in the DVD box set so the fans can choose their favorite version."

lol too true.

Interesting. I may have to do that. I never really paid much attention to the magna simply because (wrongly perhaps) I believe the anime came first and would be more definitive.

My problem is that I want Anno to do something new. Instead he broke off from Gainax (a tad), creating his own studio... to do some Eva movies for the last few years and will probably be another couple of years before they're complete. Bah!

There are also new characters in the newest versions.

I just hope the plans of the live action movie fall through. That would ruin Evangelion.

I feel the same about the Akira live action.

No. Thank you.

Add Ghost in the Shell to that list for me.

Too bad I think Speilberg is heading that one though? So it could very well happen. :(

They're trying, sadly.

I probably feel the same way about anime -> live action as I do videogames -> movies ... just don't go there, please.
