Has Winamp officially become rubbish?

Post by Pulsar_t »

It seems with each update the player becomes less stable. I'm sure I'm not alone, pity because some legacy formats have plugins that are only Winamp-compatible. Foobar is good but it doesn't have the online functionality of Winamp. Maybe there's a new kid on the block that I'm unware of?

I think it stopped being worth it long, long ago.

I know that for listening to Amiga .mod files I used deliplayer. May be worth for you to check if it can play your different files.

I still use it all the time, and it is fairly stable. I tend to use the "classic" or "modern" skin - not the newest stuff.

It beats the hell out of iTunes or WMP.

Winamp was dead a long time ago.

Same here, I still use the basic classic skin and have a few plugins like gapless and SMC and I've never had any stability problems.

It crashes on me all the time...it was my first mp3 player and it breaks my heart to see it in such a state. I'm going to see if I can't find a really old version of it, maybe a version from 2006 would be stable.

Winamp died when Nullsoft got acquired by AOL. These days I just use mplayer from the command line and I don't miss Winamp at all.
