Keyboard and Mouse, WASD. Only soulless abominations invert aim.

Keyboard and mouse for me as well, but I use the arrow keys (I just never liked how WASD is offset slightly). Regular aim; inverted feels weird in any game except flying games.

The only game I've ever been able to play with a keyboard and not die all the time is The Sims :/ I just grew up on consoles I guess.

I ALWAYS have to invert the camera - I don't really know why. It doesn't make much sense to me - does anybody have any info on why people do that? It seems kind of backwards. I'm kind of interested in the reasoning behind it.

I know it started in the flight simulator type games, but why did it cross over to other genres?

I guess what I'm asking is why is it more comfortable to point the joystick in the opposite direction of where you want to go. It just seems odd to me, and there is probably a really good explanation that google is hiding from me. I've found a lot of "do you invert the camera or not" polls but no "this is why people like inverted cameras" articles.

Ask the guy who invented the controls for actual airplanes. I'm not sure why they do it that way.

I'm one of those people who is used to pushing down for up and up for down in first person views. I think it's because I grew up with Starfox games. With a little time to adjust, I'm sure I could do it the other way though.

I'm pretty sure early airplanes were that way because of mechanical reasons and nobody bothered to change the format down the road (total assumption by me based on my nonexistent knowledge of airplanes) - but I did manage to find something on it, not quite what I was looking for but it makes some sense. http://gamepeople.wordpress.com/2006/11/07/down-is-up/

Thats funny you mention growing up with Starfox controls, because the article says the same thing.

It kind of makes sense. Think if you're controlling a person from behind. Your hand on their head. You can push their head down, or pull it back up. That's how I've always seen it anyway.

It feels natural to me only on controllers though. I use standard with a mouse now. I did at one point in time (very young) use inverted controls with mice though.

 I've never imagined pulling some game character's head around to make them look places before. That makes sense though.

I'm not sure if you just posted the exact same time I did, but I just linked to an article that says the same thing - whether you invert or not might depend on where you perceive yourself to be in relation to the on-screen character.

I prefer the dual analog, but on Dreamcast, I kinda have to play it like Goldeneye, as it is lacking an extra stick.

I do prefer Mouse and Keyboard on my Dreamcast though, such a great thing about the system.
