I'm trying to identify a C64 game I used to play as a child.
The game had a mystical edo Japan inspired art and music and I couldn't actually get beyond the particular stage I'm going to describe but I like to play it for the graphics and music anyway.
The stage involved corssing a riverbed by hopping over stones. Above you was a bridge and reaching down from it two large Sumo style giants who would snatch at you. The difficulty was very hard (at least for me back then) so I never actually got past that stage.
Does this sound in any way familiar to anyone and can anyone help me identify it? It's likely that ports also existed across other 8 bit home computer formats.

Re: Help with identifying a C64 game
Sounds like on of the "The Last Ninja" games.

Or maybe "Bruce Lee" which had sumos

You know what I think I know now, it's "First Samurai" great graphics, great music and rivers with rocks to jump over. Do't remeber sumos though.

My last guess just in case is Samurai Warrior: The Battles of Usagi Yojimbo

I think it's Last Ninja. There gameplay footage here showing him hopping stones over a river. http://vc.nintendolife.com/games/c64/last_ninja
EDIT: Actually, I donbt remember any sumos in this one XD, so perhaps not.

Yojimbo was a beast of a game. So +1 for even linking that one.

Re: Help with identifying a C64 game
I can see why people might assume Last Ninja but unfortunately the game was nothing as famous as that, or indeed the other titles mentioned (Bruce Lee et al).
The game was on a 2D plane, not isometric, and you were at the bottom of the screen, the giants (which I remember as Sumos but I might be wrong) were on either side of the bridge and you had to dodge them while hopping over stones under the bridge.
I've no idea what happened if you crossed the bridge as i was never succesful enough to do it, but I loved the graphical style and music at the time.

Man I miss Commodore 64. I want one back so bad, but the prices they're going for now are outrageous. I remember just a few years back (before mine finally died), they were being practically given away. Sorry to go off subject there, I always get a little heartbroken when C64 comes up.

Hmm...seems they are. I wonder what's caused that.
As for my game hunt, I've been all through wikipedias A-Z of C64 games and can't find the one I'm thinking of...I'm now wondering if the level I'm describing wasn't from some sort of bonus stage.

I bet Lord Santa would know.
Anybody seen him lately?

That's why I was hoping someone else might know it. But it's pretty obscure, it'll probably take a real C64 expert to know which game it is.
