I don't even know where all this stuff about the ps1 version of FF4 having these long load times comes from.

5 and 6 I could understand, but 4's load times were practically nonexistant...

Now that I think about it, FF IV wasn't as bad as the other games. My memory might be overflowing onto it from the port of Chrono Trigger that came on the same disc, because I most certainly recall that having abhorrent load times.

I do remember there being some really long load times when saving in FF IV, and it seems like I remember it lagging somewhat during battles.

The load times for Chronicles aren't as bad as the load times in Anthology (V and VI), but I definitely remember some overall performance issues. Things got of clunky sometimes, and saving did take forever.

The load times in Anthology were pretty awful though, there's like a 5 second delay when opening and closing the menu every time.

Chrono Trigger's load times were abhorrent. I can't believe they messed it up that bad.

I really don't remember slowdown or things like that in FFIV either, (though I definitely DO remember sluggy performance in VI). I'd have to fire the game up again on the save/load times though. Either way it's fairly excusable since a lot of ps1 games took a while to save/load games anyhow.

The ps1 port of FF4 is still my preferred version regardless. Much better translation than FFIIus, no censorship, and the difficulty isn't watered down.

To be honest, I think you guys are right about FFIV on the PSX actually. I kind of remember that it had really, really long "initial" loading at the start, but after that I think things went really smoothly, even going in and out of menu's I believe. But saving was probably slow as you guys said.

But yeah, I remember CT was disturbingly bad. That one I emulated way back in the day so I guess it was more noticeable to me too. I think it was FFV that had the worst menu loading and took forever, lol.

I didn't know the translations were a bit different with FFIV and FFII(US)? It's one I've been wanting to replay for a long time, so maybe I'll consider hitting up the PSX version again next time I do it. And again, it was challenging... but nothing "that" bad from what I remember. The final dungeon was a beast, but I that's how it should be. Probably the coolest final dungeon in an FF game in my opinion as well... classic crystal dungeon stuff.

I've never completed FFV though, is the final stretch epic? I think I got all the way right up to the start of the N-Zone and just stopped. Overall FFV was just decent in my book. I remember grinding for job points got real tedious and it was just a pain managing the job system, I guess I'd rather take a bigger selection of characters with specific skills for themselves. I will say it probably has my favorite cave theme in the franchise though.

I know there were 2 optional super-bosses in the final zone, which could make someone stop playing if they were unprepared.
I don't remember it being overly long though. Of course, I think I was using a stategy guide at that point. Call me a wuss, but hey if it helps you enjoy the game more, why not right?

I'm seriously considering the PSP FFIV port now. I promised myself that I was done buying that damn game again after the GBA port. But I see that it's in the traditional style (not 3D) and it just looks so beautiful.

But I'd buy FFVI no matter how many times they release it. I really with they could get to an updated port of FFVI before the PSP is dead and gone.
...just another lost soul...
