At first the game blew me away cause the graphics were really good. Then as time wore on I got out my Sega Genesis and played the original, and well... it was more fun. The GBA version took out 'mixable weapons', had fewer enemies on screen at once, lacked multiplayer I could use (I knew no one else with another copy of the game), and generally fell short of the original enough for me to notice.
Then a matter of months later the game dropped to $20. It didn't make me feel like I'd spent my money on something that would hold it's value very well. I look back on this as a purchase I wish I had waited for instead of buying close to launch.
Name a game you bought brand new and regretted. Or even a system, cause that's even more regretful.
I'm not sure I've ever completely regretted buying a game new. There have been several wii games I rushed out to buy on launch only for them to drop significantly in price in a few months time (Muramasa, Little Kings Story, Zack and Wiki), but as I loved all those games, I don't really regret it. Most of the games I'm less certain about I've waited on, and bought them for cheap.
Oh wait, I thought of one: Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life for gamecube. I bought it as soon as it was available, and I quickly regretted it. It over complicated everything from the older harvest moons, had an almost empty town with nothing interesting to do and took out the conveniences for big farming that some other harvest moons added, such as having harvest sprites work for you, and upgrading tools to water more squares and the likes. It was pretty bad.
Luckily, I bought Friends of Mineral Town around the same time, and that one rocks.
Another possible one is Custom Robo Arena for DS. It was fun for a little bit, but it got old fast. I wasn't a fan.
Actually, it was whilst thinking of these I realised that I havent been buying games brand new for very long. Only GBA, Gamecube, DS and Wii games have been bought by me when they were new, and even then, about 1/4 to 1/2 of those consoles games were bought 2nd hand or when the price for a new copy and dropped.
I would list Wii Play too, but it cost me £35, and it had wii remote in it worth £30. Frankly, it gave me an incentive to buy a wii remote and play multiplayer. It's a pretty bad game, but for essentially £5, I'm not fussed.
