Re: Best PS2 sports games?
What makes the Madden 2005 Collector's Edition of special interest to we retro enthusiasts is the inclusion of 16-bit and 32-bit versions of Madden that have been updated with the current 2005 roster.

That's pretty cool, I actually thought the screen shot in your first post looked like Madden on the PS1 and not a PS2 shot, so that might explain it. But even with those bonus features if you are looking for the best PS2 football game it would be NFL 2k5.

Totally agree with the NFL 2K5 reccomendations.I still play this game even now.The controls are easy and the presentation of the whole game is top notch.Graphics are not bad and it runs at a great speed. It has in game accomplishments and milestones.
You can decorate your "crib"with your favourite teams colours, pictures, trophies. You can even add sofas and air hockey and table football.Course you can also unlock videos to watch on the tv in your crib. And you can challenge celebrities squads to a game and get whooped.
It has all the weather effects as you would expect andsome of the bonus commentary you can unlock is well funny.Of course it even has a bobble head display case for you to show off your collections.
So much depth in a game that bugs me madden didnt pick up on in the games.

Re: Best PS2 sports games?
I always have a season going on NBA 2k3. I even make current players and add them to the drafts. I play it on the GC but I don't know how they could make it much different on the PS2.
I have tried all the newer basketball games but I just don't enjoy them as much. My friend finally talked me into getting 2K11 which was pretty good but I still traded it in and went back to 2K3.
NBA 2K3 is the perfect middle ground for me between arcade and simulation. The controls are simple and natural enough that I can not play it for a year and just pick it right back up. I don't need or want anything more complicated.
Actually the whole 2K3 series is where I draw the line for NBA, NHL and NFL. The only new sports game I own is NBA Jams on 360 but the shouldn't really count as a new game. It's just jams.

2K3 was my favorite on GCN, but I think 2K9 is the best on PS2. I like it better than 2K3. In 2K3 the hot and cold streaks are just way too much sometimes. You'll hit like 20 shots in a row, and then miss 20 in a row. It's too frustrating sometimes.drunkn ghost wrote:I always have a season going on NBA 2k3. I don't know if I tried 2K9. It's probably about $2 now so I might have to give it a shot.
2K3 can definitely be frustrating sometimes. I actually lost in the first round of my playoffs last season because I only hit one shot the entire 4th quarter of the final game. I even had dunks bouncing out of the rim. I was yelling so much my roommate came and checked on me to see what the hell was going on.

yeah 2K9 is really balanced. Last I checked it was still $10 at GameStop.

Ugh, I would also pick up Dave Mirra Freestyle bmx 2, if you think it's a sport? I do because I actually did freestyle for 21 years before my body gave out! I had a lot of fun with this game and I believe there is a editor feature which I do not think I have used before. Most levels are laid out nicely and if you have ever been to Woodward Pa. it's pretty much how the game laid it out. At least when I was there in 1995...there is newer sutff there now

Sled Storm
I am not sure if you would even include this game but I consider racing a sport and I really, really, was surprised at how much fun this game is. Again this is not really a sim style game so I am not sure what you would think about it
heres a review.
Other than that I have nothing that comes to mind except NFL Gameday 2001-2004 on ps2 which I thought wiped Madden off the map back when it was on the ps1 but most people found the game too hard to stop the opposing ai teams???? You have to know defense more in this game than in Madden I am sad to see this series go. I personally think this game was doing stuff Madden wasn't
Some NFL Gamday on ps2
oh this guy has his team stacked with free agents if you read his comments! lol
