Post by mrgoodbytes »

oh did I love your games. and then one day you decided that your only product was going to be star wars. a few of them were fun but seriously we are on like year 5 where EVERY game announced has been a star wars game. You've done a great job at turning yourself into a one trick pony.

Lets take a moment to look at your PC software lineup as listed on your website

I'm going to end my rant there.

new point and click adventure games..

kinda ironic that the company that made those games famous has abandoned them (yes i know sierra made point and click adventure games aswell but lucasarts games were far superior)

On the whole I think there is some truth to that, but Quest for Glory was an excellent series, and the other quest games (King's, Space, Goblin) weren't bad either. Some of the earlier Police Quest games were decent as well.

Also, Westwood's Kyandia series deserves mention among the Sierra and Lucas Arts titles. I have to admit the final Kyrandia game was a bit... odd, but still a decent effort.

But hey, this is coming from a Sierra "fan boy." (I wonder how often that's been said before?)

I understand that point and click are the dinosaur of game design. Not everyone has the patience to figure out the purpose of the rubber chicken with the pulley in the middle. Lucas could always take a risk and take a small investment into the idea eposodic gaming.

Lucas was very much the Wii of the point and click world, very casual gamer friendly. I think Zak and maybe Indy were the only point and click where you could actually die.

Sierra on the other hand... you forget a comma, you better be swapping in side B of Disk 7 to reload your save file. They were downright brutal. I was a big fan of the whole series but there is no way I would ever sit through most of those games again.

Kyandia is on my revisit list. I picked those games up long after they were in their prime and rushed through them, and only played throught them once.

sorry had to rant about that as I think Lucas has done a solid job of throwing their company away and I dont care what their balance sheet says.

Loom = Raw Brilliance

Post by timewarpgamer »

I, too, miss the era when LucasArts playing a more active role in video game development. While LucasArts was particularly known for its licensed titles, I feel the need to draw attention to a lesser-known LucasArts creation: Loom. While it appeared on the PC, I first experienced this incredible adventure game through the TurboDuo. Check it out here: http://www.timewarpgamer.com/pages/revi ... /loom.html

For those not familiar, Loom is an alternate take on the opera Swan Lake. It also represents a twist on the classic adventure genre. Rather than gather items, you gather songs (spells). Attaining the necessary spells and using them at the right time is what determines your success.

On top of all the other qualities that make Loom so amazing, the music is FANTASTIC. I can only hope that it is released for the Wii Virtual Console.

I'm really not one for point and click adventure, because it always seems to boil down to endless mixing and matching of random items to solve puzzles, always with ridiculous solutions. Things that no logical person would have ever been able to figure out the right way. But I did beat Grim Fandango with a FAQ and loved it.
