Nope, 14 is the standard here (for part time or casual jobs anyway). I myself got my first job when I was 14, earning a whopping $6 an hour :O !
That's why employers higher them instead, it would be the same job except they can pay them much less. Considering I have the experience already though its a real bummer :(

Are you a good student? Ever considered tutoring? In both my community college and my university, I was able to get hired for tutoring since I was doing rather well in two of my classes. As silly as it sounds, tutoring math is pretty easy, and for me at least, the pay was pretty well and the hours were flexible.

As an EE, I was struggling with diff. EQ., but still made a decent paycheck helping business students with loan calculations. God bless the complexity of compound interest :)

Smile:
Let a old couple (assuming 70-80s) cross the street in front of my car on a crosswalk. Old couple smiled and waved at me as they crossed the street.

Ticked:
Asshole behind me honked his horn and yelled "MOVE IT!" at the old couple.

Ticked: Some moron let this really slow old couple cross the street while I was trying to get to work.

Smile: Called in sick to work and stalked said slow people, then mowed them down.

Awesome: Found a record store and the dude helped me out a bit on understanding the essential record player set up. Found out I have the amp and just need to find the speakers and player. Also, I found the single for 'White Lines' in the store.

Not Awesome: The weather could be better. Rain in San Diego is not cool.

As much as I would love to do that (people have always said that I'm good at teaching in workplaces etc) there wouldn't really be anyway I could get my foot in the door, considering I'm only into the first 6 months of about a 2 year course. Something to think about though, I got 97.5% in a test the other day :D and I have a mate who does it (different industry though) and he says he enjoys it. But of course would always depend on who you're teaching as well, you don't want to get stuck with some little shit who doesn't want to be there because he's parents are making them go.

Good for those kids, I had a legal job at 15 in California working for Black Angus Steakhouse with a work permit from school.
